Hi everyone,
Im sort of new around here but not to the boating world..I own a 1976 21' Cheetah jet boat and my brother owns a 1978 19' Witchcraft jet boat...I also own a waverunner =X (2002 Yamaha FX 140).Right now we only have two tow rigs/two drivers and 3 trailers to tow.So i was wondering if anyone out there has made their own double decker trailer to hold a waverunner on top.I have the welding/fabrication skills,I am just looking for some input on how I am going to make the trailer. Here are a few pics of what i want to do with my trailer. If you have a double decker trailer, can you take some pics of the of the trailer? All and any info will be greatly appreciated.
I want my trailer to look something like this

You want to add 1k pounds load to a 30 year old trailer? What axles? Springs are new or are they ready to break now? Box it? Sounds good but by the time you've done that you could build a new tube frame. Gonna hang the rack on the outside of the steps? Lot of leverage there. Not bustin yer chops but its always good to get others opinions even if they are FOS.

no harm done...I know what youre saying about the weight being an issue and the fact that i still have the stock axles and leaf springs.I would build a new tube trailer but i dont have access to a bender. Also the rack wont be mounted on the outside of the steps like its shown in the other pics, but on the inside of the rails on the trailer if that makes any sense...Thanks for the opinion and all/any other opinions are greatly welcomed.

I think im going to just reinforce the hell of the the trailer..Box it,new leaf springs/axles,new tires that can handle the load and save myself X amount of money...I've had quotes of 2K to 6K dollars.....I think i can get it done for much less....If it doesnt hold the weight, atleast ill have storage on top of the trailer hahahahaha :p

Build a new trailer and take your sticks to a bender and have them bent, it would be a lot nicer when done and would probably cost you almost the same amount of money. When you get done hauling all the steel on the old trailer throw the old clunker in the trash and tow your new trailer around.

anyone have a tube trailer they have pics of?What size tubing should I use?I might just buy a bender since ill need it to build my roll cage for my bronco and f350
EDIT:I was talking with a few people and they were saying its pretty hard to get the trailer registered unless it was built from a certified trailer place...Anyone have a problem with this?

Hello, I have a trailer with a wave runner rack. The trailer is a Legend series by Triton Lifts. My 23' Commander sits on it. It has a hydraulic lift w/ remote control powered by a 12v battery. I just purchased the boat and don't need it because I don't have wave runners. I have a pic but I can't figure out how to post it. I am asking $5,000 for it. I will purchase a regular trailer after a deposit is made and will let new owner take possesion after I get my replacement trailer. Let me know if you are interested.I have a pic but I can't figure out how to post it. Email me at eham@anaheim.net and I'll send you a pic.

Dont know where you live but its not usaully a problem to reg a trailer. just save reciepts to value it. Where's your old vin #s? Could you weld the piece into a new trailer and keep the same # ? :rollside:
By tubing I meant 2x4 or 2x6. You don't "bend" it so much as notch it and fold. You already have a pattern in the old trailer. If you have solid math and fab skills its no big deal. The reason I piped in on this is I saw a rack that gave up and it WASN'T pretty.

Punisher,
Off topic but are you from La Crescenta? I was driving around the other day looking for houses for sale and I remember seeing those two boats as well as the lifted Bronco out front. I'm right up the street with a 18' Southwind Jet. Shoot me a PM if you ever want to make a run to the lake. Also, FYI I have a JD2 manual bender with 1.5" and 2" die. ;)

I have a double deck trailer. I’ve attached a picture of my rig. It was made originally by Kustom Trailers here in Rancho Cucamonga. I had service done on the trailer just a couple of weeks ago.
I “redid” mine because my boat has to fit in the garage. It’s a bit of a pain to lift the ski’s each trip. I have older ski’s so they are lighter than the new skis. My rack is 8’ long. Kustom says that all of the new ones are 11’ long and they will only put them on triple axle trailers. You really have to watch the weight.
I use my electric winch to put the ski’s up at home but I launch by pushing them off of the back of the rack. I can retrieve by backing the trailer all the way in and winching them forward. It’s work but I get to the river with one tow vehicle. PM me if you have any questions.
Punisher - I'm still figuring out the posting a picture thing so please post the attachment that I sent you when you get a minute.

For what its worth, my uncle has an 18' CP and had a rack put on his trailor for both his Sedo's. Main thing was all the reinforcement that had to be done, but he's had no problems in 6-7 years since he's done it.

I'll see what I can do for pics of my uncles setup. He leaves it at the river most of the time (Walters Camp) so if its out there now it may be difficult. I'll see what I can do.

This what your looking for? I would contact Squirt on the boards, he is the owner of this trailer. I took these for him last summer as someone else was interested in building one. I have several more pics if you are interested, with dimensions.
