3931088 BBC heads [Archive]

Has anyone come across this number before? None of the roadster.com/mortec/etc websites list it. It is paired up with a 3931063 on the other side of my '69 model 396. When I rebuilt the engine 5 years ago I never noticed a difference. Didn't know the casting numbers were documented at the time, so I didn't pay attention to them.

I'm pretty sure the 088 is a closed chamber rect. port head

Actually, that 088 head is a lot newer, the complete number for it being 14097088. The one I have is a '68/'69 closed chamber oval port that looks identical to the 063.

3931063 = 96.4 cc 2.06 int 1.72 ex 396,427 65-72 closed/oval
and another book say's 14097088 = rec port, open chamber 91 later 454ho-502ho gen 5 :confused:
The only other thing I can think of is the factory ran some "service" heads using later #'s :confused:
