That really sucks!
You actually have two problems with the steering cable. First is obviously the length. More importantly you need to know what make and model steering system you have. Bad part is that replacement cables are no longer available for some of the systems in use back then.
Reverse cable should be a standard 43BC. Just need to figure out the length.

well i know that my steering was a rotory style system. i hope i can find one soon. i guess i'll try Prime Marine. the company i work for does business with them. maybe i can get a deal.

I had a steering issue and had to replace it all. Plus I have a left hand drive and the cable went left. New helm would not fit so I had to go right with it and get a longer cable. Might just be easier to go new. And I think you will find that new cable wont fit your old helm. :boxed:

thanks Tim that will work out great. anyone use teleflex instead of morse? and what do you think of them?

Oldsquirt

Teleflex bought Morse.
Did you figure out what make and model steering you have?
Did Tim T measure his cable from end-to-end or just the length of the housing? Need to measure total length.
Here's a plug. Call RexMarine for the cables. :D

Change the rotory system to a rack system. Much easier to maintain. I did it and mine workks great. Got it at Rex.

ive always used racks to replace rotary. ive been using hardin cables from cp performance. the prices are as good if not better than most, and the quality is much better. it's only a small $$$ differance from a cable to a complete steering system w/ the hardin cables, so why not go all new. just make sure you measure them corectly. btw, that is really retarded of someone to rip used cables, carma will get them.

Hey Tresguey, do you want this Morse forward/reverse 43BC cable and fittings I have....It's cheap if you need it, if you are going to buy new anyway I can hang on to it for someone who doesn't have the $$$ for a new one. Oh ya, it is the 156" or 14ft cable.

The rack is just a simpler system, less parts to wear out. Good luck on putting it back together. Looking forward to seeing another Sprint.
