I was able to snap this pic on the way back from Laughlin earlier this evening. The lightning was pretty frequent until I pulled over. Then it slowed way down so this was the only shot that I got.

Here is one of the many that I captured last night from my home in Havasu on the south side of town. The lightning was bitchin but never got that close. It's supposed to hit again tonight and I'll be all over that with my camera.

Wow! That's a good one. Could have made the pic a little smaller though. :D That's more or less what I was going for but since I was on the road I didn't have the patience.

Hey Mike, how long do you leave your shudder open for when you take those shots?

Mike:
You are going to get killed one of these days while trying to get those pics.
But they are great shots ;)
I try to be careful most the time when I'm capturing lightning. Actuall I was in my garage when I took that photo so I was safe. :D

I use a shutter speed of 16 seconds, ISO 100, focus set to infinity and F-stop between 3.0 and 4.5 depending on the lightning brightness. Here is another one from that same storm that evening.

Cool. Thanks. I was similar except at 10 seconds. My f-stop was set automatically at like 2.8 or something. And I think I had ISO at 200.

yeah it all depends on the brightness of the light from the lightning. It's a hit or miss most of the time but I seem to nail the settings most of the time. Went out lightning chasing tonight. Drove into Parker and then about 15 miles out on Shea Road and the lightning out there in the desert was awesome. Took some photos but haven't had a chance to look at them yet. There was some massive bolts going on.

Is is one of the images I captured out off Shea Road outside of Parker. If anyone knows where the swansea ghost town road is, I was located at the canal at this shot. The lightning that night was amazing out there in the middle of nowhere!
