A question of cam selection: I bought this 17FT Targa Jet with a 20% overdriven BDS 671 Blown 460 BBF(JE 7:1), basically stock heads, with adjustable rollers, dual inline Weber 48IDF's, and two cam shafts... OK, OK, only one cam in the engine, the additional one was taken back out after a couple trips to the lake, because the original owner thought it was too radical. The cam that's presently in the engine has 110 degree lobe separation, .510/.510 lift and 214/220 duration @.050. The one that's sitting just aching to go back in is a Crane CCH-304-2-NC.. It's also a 110 lobe separation, .556/.579 lift with a duration of 234/244 @.050.. I'm not sure what the recomended RPM range is with the first cam, but the Crane advertises minimum 3000 rpm with a max of 6500rpm.. OK guys, which one to use? I'm really trying to attain top speeds approaching the 90 mph... HELP!!!!

The first cam i would consider a strong mid range cam good to 5k.the other would pull better in the upper rpm range.to 55-6k.To take advantage of the bigger cam head portinh will really help as a 10-1 comp ratio

I would think the the second, larger cam would be much better for the speeds you are wanting. For most jets you would be turning 6000 rpm or more to get into the 90 mph range. And the second one is still small enough it would still have a ton of torque in the mid range with a blower. The cam in my unblown 468 is a .230/.230 .544 lift on 109 centers, and I feel it is under cammed.

why hold back, I havent ran a cam with less then 250 degrees @.050 in years. You have the blower why not put it to work?
