Can I run your tach with an msd 6A ? I hooked it up to the neg. of the coil and no tach readings. I hope I dont need that stupid adapter.

Hallett, doesn't the 6a box have a tach terminal on it? I know my 6AL does. Due to the capacitive-discharge/multispark nature of these boxes, the coil negative terminal cannot be used to trigger the tach.

yeah, it has that tach adapter thing on it, but I have to go buy it, and I'm over spending extra money just to get this thing to work with my boat !!!

Hallett, if there is a plug on the side of the box for the tach, just plug the tach wire into that terminal instead of connecting to the coil. That is where you NEED to plug in the tach. Try that before you go buying anything else.

those ignition nazis over at msd said I NEED the tach adapter which he described as a unit that has a power, ground and tach lead. The side of the 6A has a spade connector kind of. So what you are saying is I can just plug that right into the tach ?

Just kidding. That recessed male spade terminal is there for the purpose of triggering the tach.

I'm going to hook that wire up real quick, I'm just confused as to why that msd tech guy told me I need to go buy that tach adapter ......

Looks like you got your question answered above.
Those tach adapters are rarely necessary. I think some Faria, Beede, and possibly VDO tachs require them. We've sold very few over the years. Most tachs work fine just like described above. :)
