I am getting ready to buy my crank & rods for my new motor (540 Chevy). I am going to buy Carrillo rods, but have no idea on the crank. I will need a 4.250 stroke crank.
I already have the following parts:
Mark IV Bowtie Block
Dart Pro 1 Heads
Dart Intake
1050 Dominator
MSD Dist, 6M, etc
R&B Starter
Dooley 14 Qt pan
This motor will be going in a Spectra 24 v-drive.
Thanks,
Brent

I have bought a couple of cranks.
The "Best" I would say is the one I just got
Its a Krioptonite-Pankl aerospace-L.A. entrprise.
They have there fingers in everything
There not cheap$$ About $2,800.00 "not balanced"
The sizes are wright on the money thow!!
They check it before they send it out to you and FAX you the QC Sheet.
And when it arrived I threw a mic on it and it read within one tenth of the QC sheet "Could have just been the temp that made it grow"
Do not buy a sonny bryant crank.
I bought one of those and had allot of problems
Yes it was only $2,400.00
But when they tell you what size the journals are
and you mic it up it AND It reads 7-8 TENTHS Smaller.
You sit and wonder am I the ASSHOLE!
Also they did not mill the keyway at 0'deg for the dampner "I GUESS THEY FORGET"
But I have had real good luck with an old Kiekafer Crank ,The motor made 800 hp for several seasons and still mags O.K.
Kiekafer I would say is comparable to a callies

Clown,
I was in Teague this afternoon and looked at the Kriptonite crank it may be a little too much $$$.
Teague wanted 2700.00 + tax.
BUrbanite,
I have looked into the Callies crank, what are you running for cubic inches?

I going to run a Cola in the new motor, for the money it is a very nice piece. If I had the big bucks it would definitly be the kriptonite crank.

The crower pro enduro is a nice piece and can be had for about 1700 i have both the LAE and the crower cranks and i would take the crower over another LAE but thats just my 2 cents. Bruce

Give Dave Crower a call. You should look into Oliver Billet rods as well. I run 2 motors with 4.250 Crowers.

Give Sasbastion A call at L.A.E. I think you can get there same EN30B Crank without all of the fancy stuff,Like gun drilled mains,Pankel polish finish"$350.00"just for the finish.Full counter weights.ECT ECT ECT. For around $2,200.00
If he tells you more just tell him that His neighbor Bryant want's to only charge that.
Sonny Bryant charges extra for the EN30B material.
And the corrilo rods are heavy duty , Ive had them in the old 540. And there great. But my new motor I went with the oliver billet rods. For the money I think its the same Quailty as a corrilo.
The crower stuff is I hear Real Decent aswell.
I am using there roller lifters in the new motor.
Pricey$$$ but nice stuff.

Callies crank and Oliver rods. Carillo are good but Oliver just as good or better and not near as much.
I can give you a deal.

Bruce,
Is your LAE crank new?

Not to be the cheapass out of the bunch, but considering this motor isn't going to be blown, probably will see 6000k RPM usage, and is going into a family cruiser, is the extra cost of going to something like the LAE or Crower really waranted?
Wouldn't something along the lines of a Callies Dragonslayer or Lunati be more than adequate? I guess if money is no object and perhaps high HP numbers/compression/boost is going to come into play in the future, spend once now, but otherwise I'd think that something along the LAE is overkill for the application.

Chris i run the callies dragonslayer and have had no problems. The guys at calleis are good people too. When my old motor blew up it smoked the mains and bent the crank from the heat.Callies gave me a crank at cost and gave me a free internal balance.I think that crank is the same casting as their high dollar deal but without the fancy machine work.I run that crank with eagle h-beams with l-19 bolts and have not had problems.I spin it 7,000 rpm plus.I am going to switch to oliver's and see if i can get my crank machined to the magnum plus specs.

Dude -
World Finals coming up will be her third race ... Hope to get her better dialed in this time. Built six very different loaders to test as have never been able to keep the pump loaded the second half of the track. We'll just have to see how we do.
