:eat: Do they make a special puller to get old brass bearing and seal out. The seal I can probably handle with my current tools, but the brass insert not sure? The first time they burned up so bad, I didnt need to worry about it since they were in pieces. Im trying to avoid having to take off the tailshaft...Would need to lift motor and remove interior to do that... Any info or advice thanks John... :shift:

To R & R the bushing you have to remove the tail housing and use a bushing driver like mine to either press it on and off or tap in and out!... But for a one time deal, I'd just take the housing to tranny place and have them do it, take 2 minutes to do it!..

So are you saying a tranny shop can R&R the bearing and seal without removing the tailshaft housing? Im trying to avoid removing the tranny housing...

Nope the housing has to come off to replace the bushing, the output shaft is in the way, but it's nothing to pop the tail housing off!..

John, you don't really have to lift it just undo the two bolts and stick a chunk of wood or something under the back of the case to hold it up while you take the housing off!..

That's the yoke, did you look in the end to see if the end was solid. a stickshift yoke has a hole (.060 or so) so the yoke will slide with heavy oil (90 wt). Also the yoke should only be out 1/2" +/- ( push yoke all the way in, then pull it back 1/2", this is where it should ride ) :)

John, How much does that yoke stick out of the trans? You might want to get the yoke up in the trans alittle further. The further out it is the less spline it has to work with and the more leverage the drive line has to work on the bushing. Just a thought. To lenghten the dive line would probably run you 50 bucks or so. Rick
