Have a 24' load barring wall that has a 5' opening and two 36" opening. Between the openings there are studs place 16" on center.
From one end of the wall going 10' feet the roof is pitching downward. The remaining 14' is flat roof.
Anybody have any idea waht size header would be needed to be to support the 24' with a column placed at the 10' mark?

Need more info. What kind of load. Second story?? Asphalt shingle roof, cement tiles. Pics would help. Could be anything from 2x6 to a 2x12 laminated beam

Single Story, whatever you call the non-shake cheapo roof material.
The header is there already. It is a 4 X 12 just wondering if that is enough for the span?
The header in place is one chuck so I assume it is not laminate.

Rule of thumb for a 4 x header is an inch of height per foot of length. So a 4x10 ought to span a 10 foot opening. Upsize a bit to be sure, but how bout a pic so we understand it a little better....

Here are the pics. The total span is 24' the column placed at the 10' mark is a 4 x 8 column. BTW the 4 x 12 is under the double 2x4's the original builder built.
Question: Your one inch per foot theroy is that from the column to column? (span to span) I have 14' from the column and the header is 12" plus the two doubled 2x4's.
Thanks for your responses.

BTW: This is not my house, it is the same model and we are duplicating what they did.
