I just made the switch to Dish Network. The guy started asking about my boats in the driveway so that started the conversation right. :D
Going to get two tivo boxes and two regular boxes (4 total) it is going to be $55 a month w/ tivo service. I am paying around $68 per month with DirecTv.
Anyone had bad experiences?

I've had Dish for 2 years.
I'm switching to Direct.
This Tivo (DVR) works fine, the real tivo (direct) works better (follows the program not the timeslot). Ama nationals are now shown on OLN, I need to pay $11 more for that on Dish. Yeah, I'm a cheap bastard.

Last weekend Dish network shut off my east coast and west coast network channels "by accident". I had waivers from the networks to get those channels. Now Dish Network will not turn on the channels until I go thru the wavier process again.................tell me that ain't a bunch of bull. I told them if the shut them off by accident they SHOULD be able to turn them back on...........they won't do it!!!!!

There DVR Boxes don't work and they lie through there teeth!!! Direct TV you pay alittle more but get better service and it will always work for most part... Dump Dish before they get you into a contract. I was stuck for a year and counted the days until I was able to get out... Same goes with Nextel!!!!!!!!

Sounds like its pretty mixed so far.
I just hope the Tivo works well, that is what I need. I miss all the good shit and when I do get a chance to watch TV I want to watch the good shows I missed, not whats on at the time.
BTW: Hogan Knows Best is an awesome show. :D

I have direct tv and its been wonderful especially with the NFL ticket, I don't know if Dish network has it. I never have had a problem and won't think of switching any time soon. I call every three months for any specials and they are always willing to give any info on it. just my .02

So this is turning into a ****ING nightmare.
I get home and walk in my bedroom, no box in there...downstairs...no box there, but there is a box in my sons room and my parents room. I start raging cause Dish told me 4 BOXES...of course I call Dish Network and they tell me to call my independent installer, they are closed of course. So...I start ****ing with this stuff and it seems my upstairs TV changes the downstairs channels while my mother is watching TV downstairs. Then my dad is in his room tivo'ing porno which is popping up in the playlist in my room while I am watching TV with my son, then my guide starts going crazy and it is because he is in his room flipping through the channels. WTF? I call them this morning and they say it sounds technical, call Dish, I call Dish they say it is installation and call the independent company. The independent company says it is $80 to come out and put the master box in my room and the other box downstairs like I originally wanted it. WTF? I want to talk to a manager but now I cannot get through to them...
What should I do? this is a damn nightmare. I am not going to pay the $80! I want out of this contract but it says cancellation is $300??? what do I do?

One thing that's nice about the dish network PVR's is that the remotes are both ir and radio. This means that you don't need line of sight for them to work (as you are finding out).
Take a little time to figure out the boxes, they must have a way of changing the setup/installation of these so they don't effect each other. Also, move them around to the rooms you want. Good luck with the installer, maybe you can get ahold of them to do it for you.
With 4 boxes and remotes, there must be a way to isolate them.
You will find out the TIVO is much smarter than the dish PVR's, which are basically a simple digital vcr...

Dish network is nothing but a hassle, I have been with them for 5 years and next month I will be switching over to Direct TV.
Yes they are the lowest cost, but they nickle and dime you on everything.
Wait until you have a prblem, they will bone ya!

Thanks for all the info, I'm in the process of dumping cable, I would say that by the responses stay away from "Dish" and go with Direct.

My housing development is new with no cable so I had no choice but to get satellite. Kinda liked the PIP feature.

Dish also offers a two tuner PVR receiver....however, I am friggen tired of dish...I am really thinking about switching...
Can I get east coast locals on direct?...I do like that feature with dish...

You're probably grandfathered in, like the old timers with Direct. I think, once you turn off your service, with either company, that's it, you'll never get them back again.
That's it...I have had them since day 1 locals were made available...kind of makes me not want to switch...for that reason...

You ordered Sunday Ticket and they gave you 4 months of Ultimate Choice for free. That package is like $110/month after the special is over.
I know, after football season (4 months) I'm going to go back to the basic package @ $41.00 per month...

I have Direct TV and my brother in law across the street has Dish and his Dish nwtwork seems to be down a lot. They pay a little less but also get fewer channels Speed TV, Fuel, OLN, and some of the channels that the wife likes. I don't mind paying a little more for better quality.

I switched from Cox cable to Directv about a year ago. So far I have had 0 issues. I have one of their HD boxes, and two of the regular boxes. I also have a stand alone tivo box hooked up to one of the standard boxes. I just saw on their website this weekend that they have a DVR 2 tuner receiver for $48 after the mail in rebate ($100). The deal is that if I have the premier package (which I do), that the monthly service charge is waived. How cool is that? I called them to confirm this. Now I will basically have 3 tivo's, an HD receiver and spare box for the bedroom. Sweet.

dmonsta - just get Kim Hanson to call them for you... after 30 minutes of them not understanding him I'm sure they'll be ready to surrender.
