I got a great deal on this thing and figured I'd pass it on to someone else. Personally, I don't have the time to put another boat together.
From what I was told, the boat was stripped, prepped, painted and has yet to be put in the water....needs to be completely rigged. The parts that go with it are in the pictures plus I'll be getting the timing cover for the water pump. There is some minor weather checking in the paint but all in all, it's a pretty darn good job.
The trailer needs wheels, all new lights and a paint job. There is no title on the boat or trailer, the previous owner lost it. The Coast Guard tag is there but there isn't an ID# on it.
I think this boat is a great foundation for a project.
Here's a couple of pics:

Oh yea, the lucky recipient needs to come pick it up or arrange for shipping. Just in case you have a set of spare wheels, these need to be a pretty good offset with a 4 ½" bolt pattern. Bring a license plate too :)
Would like it gone within a week or so.

I'd rather see everything go as a package deal. If I start parting it out and get stuck with the hull, I just might have to experiment with it by turning into a jet :hammerhea :jawdrop:  :D

How do you know it's a Hondo? with no ID# and how do you know it's not hot?

 No numbers? No title? Race boat only....
From experience with out hull VIN# getting a title will be tough... This is not going to help the sale. And yea the cav plates are not from that boat. Looked twice myself!!!! I sugest you contact the previous owner and try to get the bow regestration # and you will be able to track down the Vin#. Where ever the boat was last regestered the DMV should have every thing on record. Good Luck... And yea looks like a cool project.

It has very noticable charcteristics to be described as a Hondo. The hull ID could be very well on the transom under all that paint. No telling what is under there. I didn't find mine until I stripped all the paint off.

 Cole has a good question, HOT or NOT? and Hondo? Looks like one, Probably a 5/8 runner, but knowing where to measure it is a trick in its self. I would try to find a paper history befor you go any farther. Once you have that it will be easy to identify it accurately. Just my H2O.. :argue:
Mike ..again....

Depending on the year it was built it may have a number on it. Try looking under the dash and transom. Numbers were often put in inconspicuous locations. Just a thought... :notam:

I didn't know there was a trick in "measuring" if it a 5/8 or something else. We are talking about the depth oof the runner arn't we? Most people can visually see the difference between a 5/8 and a 7/8.

Was this the boat that was just bought in SoCal not too long ago? the guy didnt really know what he had...originally thought to be a Syndicate?

Cas
08-02-2005, 08:49 PM
Sorry, I can't answer too many questions about the boat....I'm not a v-drive guy at all.
The Coast Guard plate has Hondo Boats, here it is
http://www.hotboatpics.com/pics/data/500/3870Dsc00821.jpg
The wheels up against the garbage can are the wrong offset and rub on the inner skirt. Speaking of which, the inner skirt is about 1/4" steel that's welded to the trailer frame.
From what I was told, the boat was rigged to be a race boat. Hot, I doubt it as the previous owner gave me a bill of sale as a titleless sale.
I was wondering about the cav plates myself. Even being a jet guy, I didn't think they were the right ones.

Cas
08-02-2005, 08:51 PM
The depth of the runner is 5/8's

Cas
08-02-2005, 08:57 PM
I'll take pics of the floor and stringers in the morning.
I looked for ID #'s under the dash/bow and under the transom area, didn't find anything. Was real surprised to see the bow was all plywood with fiberglass over it...strong as hell!

Fiat48
08-02-2005, 08:58 PM
Cas is not a V drive guy and just doing the best he can with descriptions. Somebody in Norcal who knows V drives should go look at the piece and see what he has there. I think it's a 511T from what I can see. It has the big stringers and is a heavy boat.

EXTREMEBOATS
08-02-2005, 08:58 PM
Well no doubt its a Hondo... And yes it may look like a 5/8 runner, but to answer your question, not all runners were measured at the transom. I've looked at a bunch that were in question and found that identifying what it truly was varied by the manufacture. Not to say any one is wrong just one of the many things I've learned over the years.

I would bet this boat is a Hondo given it needs a cap job. It probably had a cap rail. The T deck runner indicates at leasty 73 so ID numbers were put there originally (if it is a Hondo). The eyelevers and rod are definately old school and obviously the rest of the plate came from somewhere else as well.
Cool old boat that will need everything and possibly an ID inspection.
I will go out on a limb as say its worth about $2,000 if its not stolen

BGMAN203

I am not sure, but I always thought the depth of the runner was taken at the very rear of the boat. I have just been recently told this isn't always the case. So now I am not sure what I am looking at

Cas
08-03-2005, 06:54 PM
the rear of this boat has about 5/8" but it only goes forward about 6". the rest of it is angled and only about 3/8". It also has what appear to be 2 1x6's inlayed into floor the full length of the boat right up the center. As blowngas said, this thing will take a bunch of hp.

As far as switching addictions, I could very well see us in a 21' Eliminator, maybe a Sanger, v-drive. The issue right now is having to pay for braces, twins, and both need them. My son is a special case, 4 extra teeth, oral surgery comes first......anyway, you all get the picture.

Thanks CAS it was great meeting you on the side of the road in Modesto, next time I'll stay longer. Thanks for coming this way it really helped me out. We stopped off at Riverland on the Kings river on the way out there, pretty cool place, swam a little and talked to the bar tender for a while.

Ya the way home took alot longer - I guess I was estimating my speed would still be 90 o'well - I getting ready to wash and wax her and get all the parts shelved.
Ya the low freeboard itch never really left and now that the daycruiser is running perfect and getting painted over winter I figured this would be a great winter project.
I'm really going to make an effort at tracking everything spent on this one, see how much it really cost to build a 100 mph boat.

Congrats Proppa!
I would leave the cruiser alone, with the blower motor...especially if it is running how you like it. You could put together a naturally aspirated set up and put it in the Hondo. You could probably get the same speed out of a pump gas motor in the Hondo as the blower motor in the cruiser. Your cruiser WILL get boring fast if you put a less hp motor in it.
