Does anyone have any real experience with "squaring" (90 degree) the trailing edge of the hull (wet surface) to the transom on a BAJA to get more speed?
I run a 240 Outlaw with a 502 EFI and would like a few more MPH ( currently 67 GPS) A number of articles suggest / promise 2-3 mph if the rounded edge is "filled" to be a sharp edge.
Also, short of a "body shop" placing a tremendous amound of gel coat at the edge and building up the rounded edge to a sharp corner, how can it be done; and can anything be used as a "temporary filler", which could be applied and if there is no speed improvement -- then removed without damage to the existing gel coat at the edge?
Thoughts from experience would be appreciated.

You can sharpen that edge yourself. The deal is to get matching gel coat. Clean the area with acetone, scuff it up with 220 or 320 grit, wipe clean again, Then get some aluminum angle "iron" from the hardware store, fold some wax paper lay it in the angle iron...ready for the gel coat. When you mix the gel coat youll need some ground fiberglass filler ("Cabasil" white powdery stuff)to mix with the gel and thicken it. Pour it into the angle iron and press up into the transom. Then remove the alum angle and the wax paper will stay until cured. It will surely be a mess to start with but you will be an expert by the time your done. Make sure you know what parts of your boat are inthe water at speed so you dont have to do any more than you have to. When you got that down you can do the strakes and chines that are affected at speed. Greg

PS after it cures then you will need to sand the corner with a block to get it exasctly how you want it. Handling will be crisp and top speed will "feel" alot better. If your hull needs a lot of trim you might pick up the speed your looking for. Greg

Word of advice --- tape off the area you dont want the gell on and try not to sand the area that you didn't put gell on or you will sand through it.
