Out neighbors dog, which is a small football sized dog, will not stop barking unless he is home. He leaves at 6 in the morning and does not get back until 11-11:30. The f-ing thing is so annoying I want to take it to havasu and let him go on rice road.  Anyone have any ideas? (besides killing him)

Small amount of a sleeping pill in his food. It will relax him.

Call Animal Services. That's neglect. People that work that much shouldn't own pets.

I think you can call the police. Disturbing the Peace is disturbing the peace, no matter what time of day it is. At least that is what I have been told.
Have you went over and told your neighbor? He may be unaware. They also make "barking" collars. My neighbor has one for their dog, but they don't use it much anymore.

if the dog is outside, MILKBONES over the fence, the dog is stressed without the master around, it needs a distraction to stop pineing, get it's attention, talk to it, let it see you, the key here is distraction.
if it's inside just politely make the owner aware, the owner most likely does not even know the dog is pineing, give the owner a week to work on it.
but no matter what tell the owner first, my neighbor and I do the same thing we both watch and listen for each other dogs. a good owner will fix the problem, either by distraction or training with a "no bark collar"
The owner cannot fix what they are not aware of.

I bought one of those anti-barking devices that lets out a sound that only dogs can hear when activated by sound. It takes a little bit to dial them in, as they react to sounds...not neccisarily barking. My old neighbor got pissed because his dogs (all 5 of them) stopped barking. The sound is really just a distraction. They also sell dog collars that either shock or let out a citrus mist.
Paint balls with pepper spray appeared to be the humane way to deal with cats poopin in your yard.....so perhaps a little target practice is in order?
I still use my anti-barking gadget for my Beagle. She will not bark when it is around. But, she learned to howl softly enough that it didn't activate the sound - which is actually quite funny as she sound like she is talking and the neighbors love it.

Jeez, ever think of talking to your neighbor about it? ;)
They make barking collars that emit a high pitch sound and one that sends a mild shock. Our old neighbors in San Diego had 2 mini terriers and she had to resort to this after I spoke with her. I used the shock collar to train my dog to stay clear of Rattlesnakes - they work 100%. They will stop the barking immediately. You have to convince your neighbor to use it though. If he/she doesn't, then you can call the city about the barking and they will see to it. They are going to ask you if you spoke to them anyway so you might as well take a high road approach. F'n with the dog will get you in the dog house or worse.
Like a good neighbor ...should sound familiar ?

I tried one of them barking collers on me, they work, give ya a nice jolt. I only barked once.
They give a beeping sound as a warning, then BAM!

In a related comment....
My brother in law has figured out a way to keep the neighbors outside cats off his vehicles...
He catches them in a live trap and takes them 1/2 way too work!!! Seems they never quite make it across the Newburgh Beacon Bridge......
Not that I condone that behavior......

That is the one I have and it does work. Just needs a little dialing in. It has an audible sound choice as well to help dial it in, but you will be sticking q-tips in your ears to stab the inner voices after listening to it for a few minutes.

I wrote the owner two very nice letters. The third one was not so nice.
The dog was quite for a few months after that but, it is once again barking at butterflys.
Nurse Wicky wrote another letter and to no avail.
The eggs were flying the other night.
The barking subsided. :D

I called the City Animal Control on one of my neighbors that had a little rat dog like you are talking about. First ticket is a warning, second ticket the cops come by and pay a visit, third ticket is a notice that you will have to appear in court and if the problem is not resolved then the dog goes bye-bye.

Talk to your neighbor the dog has been trained to bark for attention. Most dog owners are the ones who get trained, not the dogs.
Petco has nylon muzzles that allow a dog to breathe and drink just not bark, eventually the dog figures it out if he does not bark the muzzle goes away.
Bark collars are nice but for a good one pricey. A good source for quality collars would be gundogsupply.com that is where i purchased my remote training collar for my labs.

Thanks for all the advice, I am sure one of those ideas will work. I am going to talk to the neighbor tonight when I get home and let him know the situation. If that doens't work then I will take the next step.
Thanks again.
