View Full Version : How Much Cam Duration Before Water Reversion Becomes A Problem ?

Is there anyone running a big duration cam and having sucess running water thru the headers? What are the limits? Last two times out, I broke a rocker arm stud due to water compressing in the cyl against the valve causing the rocker stud to snap, luckily no bent valves or push rods. I am running a banderlog valve that kicks in at 2000 rpms. But I have a 310 duration cam also. Always seems to happen at cruising speed after a 15 minute run. I was looking at putting gate valves on the injector lines to restrict some more water. Looking for some input. I really don't want to run them dry, but I dont want to break a engine either.

I had the same problem and always had to change my oil and worried about breaking parts, so i ran a manual valve up by my seat that had 4 positions off/low/medium and high so when at idle i was able to shut them off, but still not fool proof so i just run them dry and recoat or rechrome them :D

108 degrees is what I have always heard. I run an over 700 lift roller with 108 degrees and I have no issues with a stock bassett t-value.

Duration is generally not as big a problem for reversion as the lobe center. Tighter lobe centers tend to create more reversion.(eg.108) If you've got a 110 or higher you should be OK.
