I not sure but I think I remember talking with the guys that built the motors and they actually wanted to run the larger 3.3L quad rotors but ran out of room under the hatch. You can see they already had to clearence the sides of the hull just to fit the 2.3's. Just imagine how fast it would have been with the bigger compressor's :)
