Since I'm going through the top end of the boat motor I thought I would take a look at the distributor. After a close exam it turns a little on the stiff side and old. Its a Mallory dual point. C-346 is the only number on it. I downloaded the pdf catalog from Mallory to see if I could change it over to electronic but could find anything other than a replacement cap. Any suggestions what I should do?

Buy a new one! I think you can pic up a good electric ignition for pretty cheap, new ones look a lot cooler anyway! But then again I gues their is no sense in waisting money replacing something that works :D

Check with Pertronix, maybe they make an ignitor that will fit in it and you can get rid of the points.

Pertronix does have a kit to get rid of the points.i have put a lot of these in boats and cars they work well. or you can buy a msd unit. it cost a little more.

If you are going to replace I would go with the msd, to tune the advance curve is a cake walk.

Do you see that big condenser, (capacitor), on the side of the distributor ??? That's about a 32 mfd capacitor. If you where to replace it with a stock one with about 18 mfd, you would probably pick up about 300 rpm. Myself ... I would go with a good electric distributor. Today, about the only thing that hurts them, is if you leave the key on when the boat sinks.(yes I've done that)

Mike, if you need any MOPAR parts let me know. I have a buddy that's a MOPAR freak. If he doesn't have it he know's who does in N.Cal.

I used the stock points dist. till I had a set of points go bad then installed a factory electronic
dist. with good results. Now have a MSD and it works great. Easy to tune a looks great.
If money is tight use a factory dist. till X-mass
then hit the wife up for the MSD, It worked for me.
