But it can be done, smart ass. I owened a 19' pickle fork with a 1000 hp in 2002 that was brand new. I was able to insure it, yeah I guess your right I had to make like 5 phone calls and it cost me almost 2 grand.
Sorry to hear of the boat missing. Insurance or not it sucks but still.......... better to be safe then sorry.

Maybe not, it's much easier to insure a new boat than an old one. I got insurance on my daytona but couldn't get it on my older (and much slower) Tahiti. Or if they do insure it they will only give you blue book value for replacement which is nothing on an older boat.

Well that may be the case, but just for my own knowledge. What is the difference between "blue bood value" and what he is getting?

Blue Book value is what insurers typically use to value boats and cars and is a depreciated price and doesn't represent replacement cost. For example the blue book value on my 1996 suburban is about $3400. If I've put a lot of addons and customizations in it, I may think it is worth $10000 but if it gets stolen the most the ins company will pay is 3400 less deductible. I don't know what year this boat is but a blue book value on a 1970's boat is probably going to be less than 2000. Sometimes an insurer will write a policy based upon an agreed to value rather than blue book. I did this with my Daytona, the book value was around 13,000 but I had them write a policy based on 25000. I had to show them proof of similar boats being advertised for that amount before they would do that. Most ins companies won't write a policy with a high agreed to value on an older boat in fear that someone might just sink it to collect the $$$. And if a boat is used for racing, good luck getting any sort of policy other than liability written.

Thanks for the insurance lesson, I already know all of that. So how much more is he getting by not being insured? You missed the question, something is better then nothing. And what happens when this uninsured guy runs into a $150,000 boat? Again I am sorry the was stolen, itw as a great looking boat. But to not have insurance?

I'll tell you, I probably would have been in the same situation.. I do agree with the fact that all boats should be insured, BUT, that ride was not going to sink, or run into a $150,000 cat locked up in a garage going through a 3 year resto. When it's done, then the stated worth or value of the finished project can be insured. In the meantime that is money that can be used elsewhere. My .02 right or wrong.......
Hope it gets found soon, and the thieves need to be HUNG!
