When is the first oil change on a Deisel? How often should you change the oil?

Ford-- 1st change before 5,000. then every 5K if you tow alot. Otherwise 7,500mi.
Chevy--same with first. Then every 10,000mi.
Dodge--same with first. Then every 15,000mi.
The reason Ford's is less is due to the high pressure injection system that Ford uses. It breaks down oil quickly. The '07's will come with the HPCR (High pressure common rail)[used by chevy and dodge] injection which shears oil alot less therefore lengthening oil change intervals.
However. Don't let the dealer do your oil changes.
You must remember that there will always be 1- 1 1/2 quarts remaining in the system for the injectors to fire. The dealer always overfills and the injectors start to foam...
anyways.....For oil use Delo or Rotella-T 15W-40. Get it at Wal-Mart for like $7 a gallon. Also get your filters from www.filter1.com , also get the fumoto valve @ www.fumotovalve.com
also....get your oil analyzed every 3-4 oil changes. www.blackstone-labs.com can tell you how your motor is breaking in, any abnormal wear and tear as well as if you can extend your oil changes.....
Good luck, JON.

what do you mean alot of work??? Its just changing the oil.
Changing the oil alot less than a gasser... I pay $12 for filter, $24.50 for oil. Thats only $36.50 for 7,500miles. Or $18.25 for 3,750 miles. Not bad at all. The fumoto valve is great for boats, gassers, and diesels. You can attach a hose to the end of the valve and change the oil in your boat without getting your hands dirty (except for changing the filter [we all know thats a pain in the ass]).

That Fumoto Valve is way cool. I've had them on several of my vehicles. My moho has one right now.

Get an fs-2500 bypass oil filter system and forget about oil changes. I wanna get one for our diesel, but dont have the $300+ to buy it, yet ;) Check out their website...fs2500.com

check with your local dealer. Some will void your warrantee if you add stuff like that. I know it isn't a big deal but some dealers are real sticklers.....
