water pump impellers

took the barron out for a test drive the other day.....noticed it was running a littl hotter then usuall on the water temp up around 200........took it home and took the cover off the water pump and found the impeller had only 3 and a half fingers out of the 8 that belong there.......question is how long do impellers last ? change em out every how often etc? first vdrive boat never had to worry about rubber impellers before thanks guys.

Well that depends on the owner, it's called "maintenance" I still have the same Neovane that came on my first boat in 73 and it's been on 4 other boats since and it's going to go on the Nordic when it's done and I'm on my third impeller, and that's only because I didn't know any better and listened to some dickhead that said I could increase water temps by cutting off ears until I reached the temp I wanted, yeah right!..

dumb question art but......what do u do for maint to a impeller? besides inspecting it and replacing it when worn? i was looking through my paperwork that the guy i bought the boat from and it looks like it was replaced in 83 lol

If the boat is gonna sit for a couple of weeks I pull the cover off and let the vanes straighten out. The impellor will last much longer if not bent over and NEVER run them dry.

I change mine every year, and keep the old one in a zip bag just in case it fails on the lake :) How much do thay cost!
