How many of you guys run a thermostat on your motor? I installed one in the winter and not sure if i am happy with the temp it runs at so considering going back to a gate valve. Pros and cons please.

Care to be more specific with your concerns? What temp is it running at?

right now it runs at 160 but i have seen guys that like to run there's at 120 to 130 range. I use to run mine at 120 to 125 and don't know if i am quite happy with the thermostat in it seems like i have lost a little power with the engine running at that temp maybe i am just crazy.

160 is fine, even 180 and a little over is fine. I'm thinking the power lose may be in your head, but I'm no professional. If you are approaching your final set up and you settle on that temp, you can fine tune for that temp with some jetting, timing, and plug temp ranges. There's probably a couple of horsepower in your fine tuning. I run a thermostat and love it. Nice solid 160-180. I run all kinds of sand through my system and have never had a problem. My system is as simple as it gets. Regulator, rex t-stat, and dry headers-Aluminum Squirt

I have ran a thermostat on mine and it stays right at 160 if I run it real hard it might go to 180 but thats it. Its nice in the winter time becasue the boat warms up much quicker and stays alot maintinas alot more consistent temps.
