Well... Since my box anchor was stolen at Mohave a few weeks ago it is time to buy another one, anyone have any favorites? The box anchor was cool but pretty bulky, I was looking at the aluminum alloy fortress (danforth) type.

The Jaws Anchor from Dana Marine is similar to the box anchor, and works great. I would either go with one of them, or replace the Box Anchor. Nothing else works nearly as good at Havasu or on the river.

There's a newer triangle one, similar to the box, but it folds smaller, more compact. I haven't used it, but it looks like it'd work well.

Stick with the box type anchor for the lake or river. Fortess can be a pain to get set. I have three that friends have left behind after getting their box.

Box.
Hopefully he'll offer a stainless version someday.
But for now it's fine.

We had a 60' house boat with about 10 boats tied to it last weekend with 5-10mph winds on 2 box anchors!!!!! Not a fish story!

depends on the bottoms of the rivers lakes.I have a danforth type and a box the box has the big advantage in needles area where there is current and a rocky bottom. As for the sand bottoms the danforth will work just as good.
IMO alot of people dont know how to use a danforth anchor properly that is why they dislike them,Onthe otherhand i have seen people with box anchors and there boat is moving saying and mine is til i look at their anchor line to notice their rope is straight up and down,
for the danforth type you need atleast a 3-1 rope ratio to depth of water. EX 10 ft of water use 30 ft. chain also helps maybe a 4ft lenght(altough not always needed it helps set faster).
Now i usually keep the danforth at camp(so if it gets stolen its only a few bucks vs alot more for the box)and keep the box in the boat

Small box in stainless is out, the medium one will be out in about 2 months...

The box folds up pretty compact.......don't see any size issues there...

how about a big block chevy?
A friend got rid of 2 top-notch anchors last fall, a 350 Olds and a 460 block. I tried to tell him that crank would make a great sand-spike but he just wouldn't listen. :p
