Hello, just wanted to comment how much I enjoyed this past weekend at the cbbb. a weekend well deserved away from work. my 18' jet seemed to use quite a bit of fuel. can anyone guess or know what the average miles per gallon on a bbc jetboat gets?

Most BBCs will use allot
My BBF at cruise will get 4.7mpg

It should be more like gpm not mpg. :D

Depends on your carbs and set up.
My BBF, running 2 750 double pumpers get GREAT milage. My secondaries open at about 4k or even a little higher. I can go very far.
Lakes only on the other hand, his secondaries open the same as the primaries, so he gets crappy milage.
Put it this way, Lakes Only drove from Park Moabi to Devels Elbow and back and used 1/2 of his fuel. I went there and back 2 times, plus to the sand bar, and make some speed passes and I only used 1/2 my fuel.

I'm averaging about 1.5 miles to the gallon.

I get arround 4 to 5 mpg in my 454, but I usually figure it in Gal/Hour (GPH)
Towing tubes & skiiers, about 5GPH (speeds 20 to 35 mph)
The Admiral & I cruizing ("fishing" for suckers to race :D ) about 7 to 8 GPH (45mph) :eat:
Both arround 110 to 120 miles to the bottom of 22 gal of premium.
Probably about 20 GPH outrunning Bajas & Bassmasters :2purples: (without the nitrous). Don't think I'd make much over 60 or 70 miles tho. You can just watch the gas gauge fall like a cannonball was attatched to it.

Danhercules .... you're just keeping priorities in mind. Lakes is burning his beer $$$$ up in gasoline.

We have the original 1978 454 in ours and we get between 1.5 MPG and 2 MPG depending on how we are running it and if we are towing tubes or skiiers.

Not to be a smart*ss here, but how would anyone know how many miles they go in their boat when they are on the water, unless they are doing a straight shot somewhere? Are they making odometers now for boats, cuz I would love to have one. I usually am on a lake, and I am all over the place. I agree that Gallons per Hour is a better representation of fuel use.
I agree with Dan on this one. My secondaries do not open up til I am turning above 4 grand, so when I am cruising I can go quite a distance. I only used 1 tank of fuel at CBBB, and that was including the trip from Moabi to Topoc and then back towing another boat up river. And Kung Fooling Dan also. It all depends on your set up and how heavy your foot is.

Roger, we figured ours out one day because we knew exactly how many miles it was to the Channel at LHC from Black Meadows Landing. We left with a full tank, refilled when we got back to BML,giving us exactly how many gallons we used for the trip. We found out we were getting a little less than that on our last trip to Parker when we ran out of gas, also knowing pretty close to how many miles we had traveled, dam to dam a couple of times, for example.
Smartass :D

Since I don't do any A-to-B runs (lake boater), I have to try to work from average speeds by ammount of time running. Yes, it's imperfect, and I am probably erring high (except for the part about opening her up and WATCHING the gas-gauge needle head for the floor)

Most GPS hand held units have a mile trip built into them and are very close.

I knew when I posted that I would hear some feedback. :argue: Thanks to Nate for pointing out I am old and not with the times and new technology (GPS). Like Smokin, I boat on a lake most of the time. I will have to leave my GPS on the next time at Naci and see what it all works out to. 5 GPH sounds so much better than 2 MPG. :boxed: I am glad that I proved my GPS is waterproof, since it was in 6 inches of water when I came back from CBBB, and it still works!
