Okay here's the dealio ... Don & I drove out tho asses the situation this morning ... the channel looks much better than it did 5 years ago ... our poles are still there and the waterskiers that use the channel are keeping it free of debris ...
Now ... this is what I am going to say ... I will put in a lot of leg work to try to make this happen, if (and only IF) I get solid commitments from individuals who will help try to make this happen. There will need to be meetings, planning, set up, tear down, transportation of equipment, etc., etc., etc. ...
I will need probably 20 people to help out. I've already spoken to Mike (cyclone) about assisting with the city council ... and I will go and file all of the appropriate paperwork & take this to the board ...
But I will not do this alone. I will need a few of the committed to be able to make the board meetings as well to let them know that this is a serious attempt to have a secondary venue.
So there it is ... I've started this ball rolling ... now who's going to help me in keeping it going?
Here are the pics:

This would be cool as hell if they would have a few races there. Now it would only be an hour drive instead of four hours.I think you will draw a bunch more spectators also and possibly a few more boats from AZ.Busby if there is anything i can do to help let me know.

I spoke to Mike after the post ... he's already got the contact name for the person at the city who is in charge of Lake activities as well as a lot of good ideas.
If this comes together ... we should be able to have a large enough gate count to pay the racers purses!
Thanks for the offers, I will keep posting as I get more info.

I was there shooting last time you guys ran there. It got pretty rough in the afternoon.
Is puddingstone out of the question for a race site. That place was perfect, great pit area, grassy shady shoreline, 15 minutes away.... :clover: :D (for me at least)

BUSBY
08-21-2005, 02:30 PM
Pretty much ... they want to estimate what you're going to get at the gate (spectator wise) and charge you up front. The last time we checked into it ... they estimated that it was going to cost us over $15k to pay for the use.
A little too rich for us. They were using numbers from the early 90's when drag boating was at it's height ... kinda unfair.
And yes ... it was rough later in the day ... but remember how many people turned out? We would have to block the opening of the channel to stop the rollers from coming in. The city was supposedto do that last time ... but never did ... waves were coming in off of the lake by the end of the day.
And remember the ducks/birds? 1/2 track ... the flock would land in the middle of the course ... about 20 of 'em ... they'd take off and come right back on 60% of the runs on Saturday. Didn't see any today though.

not sure what sort of help i can be (some of you know my situation) but maybe in transportation of equiptment or something. from where does it need to be transported from? im about 20 minutes from lake elsinore. (south)
with regards to the birds, maybe someone with a remote controlled boat can scare them off.

If drag racing came to Lake Elsinor it would gain popilarity. When the motorcross track was built in Elsinor 8 years ago half of orange county got into riding.
I know of at least 5 guys that would run River Racer Class because it would only be 45 minutes away and something fun to do with our :crossx: hot rod jet boats. I will volunteer my time in a heart beat, let me know.

This is great guys ... one thing to remember is that we are planning for the 2006 season. Probably the April or May race ... (i'm thinking May ... right before Memorial Day to kick off the summer) ...
I am making a list of everyone who volunteered ... and will be contacting all as we go.
RR ... your Dad's warehouse ... does it have parking where we can bring all of the rescue boats, trailers and stuff to like the weekend before? That would be awesome.
I'm off to the swapmeet with the wife and kids ... so I'll check in later.

It would rain at almost every RWYB in March, so I'd say April is a little too close for possibly rain delayed event. May sounds like a better choice.

Most Capsules Sink. As far as depth I'm not exactly sure; mabe Mr. Irvine Lake can answer that for us. One things for sure; It's a hell of a lot deeper than the Elsinore Channel.

We Can meet at River Redy Steve's Father-in-Law's warehouse where we will be be bringing all of the equipment down to store prior to the race.

Was just informed that Skip ... our warehouse host cannot make the weekend of Feb. 4th ... can we do it the weekend before? Jan. 28th?
What does everyone think?
I'll bring a 20 pack ... along with my trusty video camera ... :boxed:
We might need to bring Garret though with the Caliber 1 ... my ride will still be apart ...
