What is important to you when buying a new boat for yourself? What are the five most important things that you look for in YOUR boat, in order of priority? Since boats are a significant investment and represent a personal choice, I image the list is different for everyone.
Here is a partial list of things that people consider, in no particular order. Feel free to add more!
Price/Value
Price/How high can I get it!!
Speed of boat/hull
Quality of motor build/ internal components
Quality of motor build/external components
Appearance of motor components
Horsepower/torque of motor.
Quality of drive compenents
Color of boat
Color of accessories
Color of interior
Quality of accessories
Quality of gel
Quality of interior
Overall fit & finish
I am not implying that one thing is more important than another. Since most of us have a certain “budget” in mind, we have to set “priorities. After all only the ballers can have it all.

Mine is
Specs and assemble of motor matched to hull/drive.
Speed of boat/hull
Quality of motor build/ internal components
Quality of gel
Horsepower/torque of motor
I didn't get the motor I wanted   but we must all make sacrifices for those kids.

Ability of the BUILDER to stand behind their product, and provide EXCELLENT customer service after the sale is fairly important.

Still a nice-looking boat, ya trader :D

Horsepower/torque of motor.
Based on tracking ALL of the inbound calls we receive from our printed advertisements, the #1 question people want to know is..
1. What size engine comes with the standard boat...
2. How much more would it cost for a 496HO.
Without exception those are the two MOST IMPORTANT things new boat buyers are interested in knowing based on the last 100 phone calls to our shop.
Everything else is secondary to them.

That's because it seems that most builders underpower the boat stock.

Probably buyers who don't know how or have ever driven a boat...they are the ones who ask for the biggest power and most bling not knowing what they should really ask about.

That would be the guy who calls in asking for the cost of the boat with the HP600SCi or the HP850SCi and falls out of his chair when he gets the price quote...

Hard to argue with that....
Though we see plenty of them come through the lot with no numbers on them.

I think people ask that question, so they can compare apples to apples when price shopping.

aren't you supposed to ask them if they are sitting down before discussing Merc prices with the customer.

It's easy to spot those boats... they are parked in front of the manufacturer's shop with big signs on them... :D

Probably truth to that...I can relate.
I guess the ones to really watch for would be the ones that simply say, "Oh, Ok, when can I have it." :supp:

One thing I don't care about is whether or not the manufacturer is gonna make me feel special and all bubbly inside for buying one of their boats.
I'd much rather deal with a lack of people skills than deal with a boat that falls apart in three years.
You buy a quality boat and chances are, you won't need any customer service.
