How old should your child be before you let them have a page on 'My Space"??
I notice that Jenna Jameson, the world's most famous professional pornstar has the #1 blog......
My son is 12....he says some of his friends are on there....
I think its not appropriate at his age. So I said no.
I wonder what you all might do for your kids....??

I would recomend at least 40..... seriously, it's a meat market and I would say keep em off as long as possible, or try to make it to 15 or 16.

My Space is supposed to have a child protected area for kids,, but our 11 year old was contacted by a kid named F#*K You.
So much for that.

You can only prolong the inevitable for so long.

True, but as they mature, they are able to make better choices.

My daughter that is 16 has a myspace.com account. I have a netnanny service that watches her every move on the internet. When I see suspicious activity I pull the plug through the wireless router.

My daughter is on My Space. I dont like it but I walk in and check her profile and history a few times a week.....of course unannounced;) So far so good. If your really worried I would suggest a keylogger program from www.download.com or simular. It keeps track of every single key and screen that is used or shown.

I agreee with the others... 15 or 16 atleast..... As far as his "the other kids have it" argument.... I'd say , "then the other kids don't have parents that care" line... works for me :D

What He said...
You could also create your own myspace account... use your kids age, gender and interests and see what responses you get.

Katrina (age 13) had one and I just kept an eye on it for a while, as NashvilleBound does, and I was one of her friends so any bulletin she posted also went to me. I did not have a problem with it. You can set it up so that no one can see their profile unless your child okays that person to be a friend. I was checking her friends and making sure I knew who they all were and I saw nothing worth worrying about. However, Jeff heard some stuff about it from some of his employees and pulled the plug. He sees things in black and white so things are either good, or their bad. Period. So she no longer has an account.
I think it's fine, Richard, as long as it's monitored. But 12 is a little young. I think you could buy a couple of more years pretty easy. Most of the 6th graders at my school don't know what it is. Almost all of the 8th graders know what it is. Don't feel like a meany if you make him wait.

I wouldn't let them have an account untill they were at least 15 or even 16 and keep a close eye on the account!

Tell him that at 12 he has his hands full at school. If he starts spending all of his attention and time on myspace he will never wind up with one of those hottie teachers like other kids you read about.....J/K.....kind of :rollside:

He will be exposed the world soon enough, I think. No need to push it yet. They've already caught 7th graders boning in the bathroom at his school..... Not the local kids, but the imported on the bus ones....
He's still grossed out by the kissy scenes in the movies... :p

My Space is a breeding ground for criminal and juvenile delinquent activity and it should be banned. I wouldn't let my kid go near it. Just my .02 :)

That is the funniest thing ever.
My daughter has friends in it and she wanted to check out that site. I spent about and hour on it, and no way in hell would I let my kids spend any time there. Just asking for trouble if you ask me.

 My Space!!! C'mon Noww!! You know what is best for your child...STICK TO YOUR GUNS!! At 18, your child is considered an adult and he/she will let you know that immediately upon that day...until then, "parental discretion" is of utmost importance!!!!!
DON'T GIVE IN...BLOCK IT!!

they are ready when they are mature enough to not release personal information, talk to "strangers".. etc. its common sense, and you can make your profile private(people cant access your pictures, blogs, interests, its just blank and it says "this users profile is set to PRIVATE")
ive got one, my little brother wants one(hes thirteen) and my mom says "next year" i told him not to get one because in a year itll be cool not to have one. haha.

I'm lucky to have a 12 yr old daughter uninterested in that bologna....plus we wouldn't let it happen for safety sake. She has other age appropriate sites we allow her on.
