I saw this while looking around the net and wanted some more info on it.

I think Jim Wilkes rigged that boat. He will know about those Cougars

You're right Trav, that's the 21' Cougar they built over at Wilkes Marine. Give Jim a call at (714) 540-8908 after 5PM PST. He rigged it and did all the testing. It came out bitchin.

Thanks Riverkid I'll give him a call. Do you know how the boat ran?how it drives around the docks,Whats the top speed? :2purples:

It's been a few years. You'd best get it right from the horses mouth (Jimmy's)... I know Jim was very much impressed with the handling and man was it quick and fast. Jim didn't build the motor and I'm unsure if it was dynoed/how much boost, etc. It was a real nice package though. Jim is on these boards occasionally. You could try PM'ing him. His user name is JWM.

Sam Corbett just took delivery of his new Cougar 21 MTR V-Drive. This beauty is equipped with a twin turbo Big Block Chevy with 960 dyno'd horsepower a 3-speed Turbo-hydromatic GM transmission and more top drawer stuff than is possible to list. Top speed is unknown but as Sam puts it "the acceleration tears my head off." 1st gear is used for around the docks but cruising and ripping is done with 2nd and 3rd gears only. 38% over gears are used with a 2 blade prop. The entire drive train is polished including the heads, block, transmission, drive case and shaft tube.

960HP with 38 over gears in a tunnel? That boat is VERY fast. Jim will know for sure. He's got a bunch of pictures of it from bare hull up to completed rig.
