better hope the national gard is ready, news just said a guy in the superdoom jumped to his death, suicide, from the upper seats.Ive been to new orleans and biloxi, all over there, its the most economically challenged area ive ever seen(was that politically correct enough?)My dad and I drove through there a few years back on our way to florida,Bourbon Street was cool,ONE block off of it and it was the worse neighborhood ive ever seen, make bad areas in LA seem good,Im kinda sheltered here in socal, but I can say the area really scared the piss outta me,we got back on the freeway and went to biloxi, nice place.......so we have only begun to see the troubles there,it will be a free-for-all.Gonna be ugly

NEW ORLEANS - With much of the city emptied by Hurricane Katrina, some opportunists took advantage of the situation by looting stores.
At a Walgreen's drug store in the French Quarter, people were running out with grocery baskets and coolers full of soft drinks, chips and diapers.
When police finally showed up, a young boy stood in the door screaming, "86! 86!" — the radio code for police — and the crowd scattered.
Denise Bollinger, a tourist from Philadelphia, stood outside and snapped pictures in amazement.
"It's downtown Baghdad," the housewife said. "It's insane. I've wanted to come here for 10 years. I thought this was a sophisticated city. I guess not."
Around the corner on Canal Street, the main thoroughfare in the central business district, people sloshed headlong through hip-deep water as looters ripped open the steel gates on the front of several clothing and jewelry stores.
One man, who had about 10 pairs of jeans draped over his left arm, was asked if he was salvaging things from his store.
"No," the man shouted, "that's EVERYBODY'S store."
Looters filled industrial-sized garbage cans with clothing and jewelry and floated them down the street on bits of plywood and insulation as National Guard lumbered by.
Mike Franklin stood on the trolley tracks and watched the spectacle unfold.
"To be honest with you, people who are oppressed all their lives, man, it's an opportunity to get back at society," he said.

My favorite image I saw was the looters that were stealing toilet paper and then wading through chest deep water during the rain carrying it. WTF?? :hammerhea

im surprised the goverment wasnt set up for this, they had a week to prepare, why didnt they get the national guard stagged close to the city,it seems like everyone was 'surprised' that looting has started, people in the inner city there are poor, unemployed, blah blah...I have no idea what im talking about ,but it sure seems like the state wasnt ready.Maybe all the national guard is in iraq?BUSH is gonna cut his vacation short and leave the ranch early, what a hero for that.

disease spread by dead animals; mosquitos spreading ???; malaria? Stomach problems - vomiting/blowing mud. All of that water out there is like soup stewing in the heat. God know what is gonna spread. :220v:

I'm waiting for the Rev Jackson to come on CNN and tell everybody how they "deserve' to legally loot the stores because they have been beaten down by The Man for so long....
....at leastthat's what he said to defend the actions of the looters in the LA riots :220v:

I'm not sure, but I think they aren't really sure WHERE the hurricane will actually hit, until it does hit......It went between New Orleans and Biloxy.
I just hope that water does NOT catch on fire, you can see the oil floating in it..... :squiggle:

Did you see the one brother? He had one hand on his pants, so they wont fall off, and the other hand was full of clothes. You would think if the guy is going to steal clothes, he would first steal a belt to hold up his pants. Then he would have two hands for more stuff. :hammerhea

One could imagine the LE/Nat'l Guard units have a huge void to fill, and the standing water doesn't help matters. Comm's are probably all down for LE and the military stuff fills up fast. Those TV guys are certifiable where they will go for coverage. I drove past Paul Moyers' cam van burning to the ground in the last mountains fires. He and his tech barely got away from it. TV is cool and all, but I'd hate to be the poor commander on the ground trying to shore the place up on short notice. My parents lost goods and property during the Watts riots, and I had firsthand experience during the LA riots... Lost three windows out of a company Dodge K car...
A mounted .50 and and M60 in hand wouldn't even slow those folks down right now. You need a HUGE presense (?) to moderate what's happening...
Best of luck to whomever gets to bite that bullet.
