My dad is thinking of buying one off my uncle. It has a 6" lift, dual struts, levels, system, interior is mint, 460 with C6? extra cab, black...pretty much fully loaded, my uncle has had the thing fully service, replacing a few struts and u joints, plugs, wires, etc... oh yeah it is 4x4
Are these things big piles of crap? or pretty strong?

good strong truck. a bit under tuned for emissions so the power suffers, but thats with all factory trucks.

If you dad does not end up buying it, and your uncle still wants to sell it would you mind forwarding the info to me?
Thanks

Don- Good truck. My dad had one years ago. Would pull a house off the foundation if you needed it too. Gonna hate the gas though. If he is not going to drive it everyday it wont be bad. Wont even know that Eliminator is back there.

He works 3 miles from home and just needs it as a tow vehicle, my Mom has a new Altima for good gas mileage, he drives that most of the time. :)
His chevy is sitting in the driveway still.

Don,
My '91 has as of right now 474K on it. The engine is 99% stock. I had to replace the water pump so I did the timing chain too. The trans kicked ass for years and then started to leak so I had it rebuilt, it took them 5 trys to get it right and they just never did. I finally found the problem a bad speedo drive gear. I amvery happy with the truck it has been in the family all its life. The 7.5L (460) is one tough cookie !!!

I will apologize to all of the GM people upfront.
Don, we have owned our F-150 for 6 years and other than doing normal maintanence we have had to do nothing. When I owned My GMC it seemed like every time I turned around I was doing something. tell your dad to jump on it......... :coffeycup v-drive

Thats awesome Jim, I thought my car with 296k was good. :)
Ben, I love my Expedition too, I think it is the same style as yours 98? 5.4l kicks ass.
My dad currently has a 93 GMC Sierra. It has a new motor, he has put 20k on it since, new alternator, new clutch, new water pump, new radiator, new TBI, new ecu, new wheels, new struts, pretty much everything new on the damn thing. He dumped thousands into it, 4 bolt main 350 and all. After all this in a short span of time, he thought it would last FOREVER.
Well...on the way back from CBBB...He lost the clutch, then it started overheating, blew a head gasket, oil pressure dropped and POOF KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK. Pulled the pan 3 rod bearings are toasted on a 20k motor, clutch is gone and water pump is shot, also need a new head gasket. ALL THIS and we have not even got into the damn door handle falling off, seat that wont recline back, mirror that wont stay on and ebrake spring that snapped off.
POS GMC
He is supposed to get my uncles truck Monday, then use it for a while and KEEP IT, but eventually he wants a new F250.

I'm sorry to here that about your dad's 93. mine was a 93 also I had 150K on it when the @nd trans started making noise. I had replaced the rear end. ac, 3 boosters, and I can't count the wheel bearings I had to put in that thing.
This is what I can pull off the top of my head. There were so many little things that would go wrong I just finally had enough. later...v-drive

That era of Fords are my favorite. I have owned a few and they are great trucks. My last one had a 28" lift on it and I sold it at 100k miles with no real problems. The 460 does like its gas, but if he isnt driving it all the time its no big deal. And it will pretty much tow anything hooked up to it.

Where are the pics of the truck with a 28" lift?
I own a 1990 f350 crew cab 4x4 with a 460 efi and e4OD trans and bw1356 transfercase.I am the second owner and can say i have beat this truck to hell...From towing,to taking it to Azuza Canyon OHV to numerous odd jobs.No real problems except for a small ABS problem I had...A simple pull of the fuse fixed that problem.I just replaced the smog pump, trans filter, diff fluid,plugs,wires,etc...Another words,a major tune up and shes getting 14MPG.I installed a K&N air filter and flowmaster muffler and she tows our boats with ease (20' jet boats).Anyways,i say get the truck...Here is a pic of my truck....I'll be lifting it 12" next month and probably run 40" Goodyear MTRs.

Here is mine
'91 SDF250 4x4, Supercab (Severe Duty)
7.5L efi, E4OD trans, 1356 Transfer Case
Had stock trans rebuilt at 250K
My biggest expence and bitch is tires, they only last about 98K
I am on my 5 set
It also has a 6" SkyJacker system on it.

I can say this @ 200K I was getting 16mpg, now @470K I am getting 10-11mpg. The 460 is a very good and reliable engine. I am planning on replacing the engine with one of LakesOnlys replacement complete engines in the near future. I just doesn't have the power it once did. And I am going to be putting 37s on it too !!!

I didnt do any of it ;) I am not sure what they did...I did NOT want blocks in there ( I have had problems in the past) The arc on the springs were rediculous. Honestly the truck rode like $hit thats why I sold it. They did relocate a bunch of stuff and I had ladder bars front and rear. It looked good and that was about it.

Here it is RIGHT when my dad pulled up. DIRTY as hell. We washed it up tonight and he is going to climb under and polish all the suspension. Most of it is surface rust, but polished alluminum and chrome. It has a total of 16 shocks? pretty crazy set up really. Lots of braces and stuff all over.
The tint will be the first thing replaced.

Don,
The frount has an extra steering stabalizer mount that is not being used, take it off !!! I would replace the rear springs and eliminate those blocks. If not just replace the U-bolts with some thinker ones, those look a bit small. Also check the drive shaft carier bearing, it sucks when they go out !!!
Do you know what size wheels those are ???? What size tires also ??? I can help you out on BF Goodrich tires !!!
You can call any time !!!
Jim
BTW - Nice truck !!!
Does it have an overdrive buttom on the dash ???

Hi Jim,
I will pass the info on to him. I dont think he wants to mess with the suspension much. It does need tires. They have worn a little funny and my uncle had them rotated but the wheel has vibration at high speeds still, I think he waited too long. I dont know what size tires they are, I will have to take a look. It does have a overdrive button on the dash.
