I just bought a rebuilt pump and compared it to the original 12JC pump and bowl and the only real differance that I see is that the new pump has an aluminum plate in the ceter of the bowl approx. 8" diameter and 1/8" thick with a roughly 2" diameter hole in the ceter for the shaft to slip through. This plate is attached with 3 stainless screws. What is this for? Any ideas??????

If you are referring to the bowl area behind the impeller, you are looking at a stuffer plate. This plate takes up (minimizes) the clearance on the backside of the impeller and assist in sealing the pump for additional efficiency.

Not worth buying one unless you have BIG horsepower or maybe racing with a full blueprint, and turning BIG rpms.

It does look very much like that picture. My "stuffer" is not tapered as the one in the pic appears though. Mine is just flat. Is there any reason that I should leave it on since it is there or should I remove it?
