There are millions of people displaced from their homes not knowing when they can return and thousands of people dead and dying. A city that is a piece of American history destroyed in what is probably THE Worst natural disaster in the history of the US and all you people can think about is how it affects YOU?
Tell me, how many people are willing to cancel their plans for this weekend and donate half of what you would have spent to Red Cross. I cancelled all my plans and will stay home this weekend and donate all I can to the relief efforts.
I live in Central Texas and have been following the boards for about 2 years and thought pretty much everyone here were educated level headed people. All the posts lately seem extremely selfish, more so considering what most of you went through in 94(?) with the earthquake.
Flame on, but first stop and put yourself in one of the victims shoes for a second.

Good post.
I am donating blood on Friday. I have a rare blood type. Also donated $$ and canned foods to our church.
I am working all weekend, but very good point. Save the money from your gas, stay home, and send atleast half of it for aid.

1 respsonse in 8 minutes; point made.
However, you have no idea what anyone has or is going to do regarding the tragedy. I won't make public my plans; some will. To each his/her own

anyone who is complaining about what is or isn't being done and how much bother it is to them but are unwilling to make some small personal sacrifice to help people who have lost everything.
I know there are alot of people who help anyway they can I just feel fustrated being so close and being so helpless to do anythingthat will make a difference.

I think we all feel a little helpless with something like this. Its a very unfortunate event. I have yet to hear someone complain tho about all the talk of helping....... and I WAS bitching about what was not being done yet. I think its been WAY too long for supplies to get into the affected area.

For some reason, I don't buy that. But that is just me. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck....etc. He is not looking for financial disclosure, but it is obvious people are more pissed off about gas prices than they are concerned about this tragedy....it is obvious by the posts. Oh, I know, they are all secretly giving and the complaining is just a coverup?

I think there are plenty of people left here in the states to handle this if your refering to our servicemen and women overseas. They had all the stuff stockpiled up just a hundred miles away.....

So. Your logic would be for this board to convert to a "Help the Katrina Victims" board and include a "Tote Board"? This is about (well supposed to be about) boats and boating. With all of the news and media outlets bombarding us with updates every minute re: the tragdey, we get all of the info we need on the situation. Is it too much to ask for some people to come on here and talk about how this is affecting our lives? If that is fuel costs that have an impact on them, so be it.
Yes it's horrible what happened to those poor souls. I can't imagine what it must be like. I can do next to nothing sitting here 2000 miles away aside from giving $$ to the appropriate aid group - they don't want or need clothes and food, yet. I have given and I will give more as I can afford to do so.
We all deal with tragedy differently.
Peace

Hmm, interesting. Let me play devil's advocate for a sec. If I DON'T do anything to help these people, exactly what business is it of yours? Who the hell are you to tell anyone they are a bad person because they didn't help someone? This is what our country has come to, mandatory charity. And those who aren't as miserable as the afflicted are SOB's. How dare you use your boat this weekend. Well, anyone remember the BILLIONS of dollars that the Red Cross collected after 9-11? Anyone know how much actually reached the victims and/or families? About 10-20%. I will NEVER give money to the Red Cross after what they did to the families of those Firemen.
Hey shorty, you prick. What the hell are you doing here bitching about those who are bitching about gas? Shouldn't you be in New Orleans helping people? How dare you sit on your ass on the internet when you could sell your computer and turn off the internet and donate that money to the red cross. Then fill up your car and go help. You make me sick.
Okay, I'm done playing Devil's advocate. I'll go put on my Nomex jock strap and heat up some popcorn.

Good start to the thread. I beat you to it and started one asking everyone to do their part and donate. I suggested donating to www.feedthechildren.org because I too don't trust the American Red Cross (not after 9/11).
BTW, we made a healthy donation to Feed The Children

We won't talk about the Feed the Children scandal........as long as you feel good about donating :D It's okay, the CEO got canned for that one because he fed himself with the children's money.

I saw this one episode where the south park kids break up a huge fuel heating scandal. F'n classic...almost as good as the one where Cartman is eating carpet .

She had an entire warehouse of Cheesy Poofs stashed in Africa to eat while she was making the "Feed the Children" TV ads. I always wanted to donate to them, then about a year later tell them I want to visit my kid and see how much he's improved so I could see the look on their faces. If he even exists. :boxingguy

I'm not going to the Zoo this weekend, not because of gas prices or the disaster. But I will do my part and donate money to the red cross. This is a worthy cause !

Thats what I am talking about!!! I can see these people going into supermarkets or stores and taking food that is going to go bad just sitting on the shelves, or heaven forbid some water to drink. But these frigging idiots running around in three feet of water carrying plasma televisions, and dvd players.....they deserve what they get!!! I just wish those national guard troops would make some examples out of them!!

Most around here feel the same every life lost is tragic but these boys signed up. There are alot of Air force guys around and if you ask them about it they say hey thats what we do . My hats off to these boys and to all the others who made this country what it is .

I have never seen South Park...
If you like vulgar, crude, politically charged social sarcasm you'll love it!
I lmao at it. Christmas special was the best episode. You should rent it...just don't let the kids watch!
