View Full Version : Channel Islands Fun Run (10-08-05)

It's that time again. Some of you may remember last December when we did this run. We're doing it again! Last year we had 12-15 boats show and a few ***boat members show with out there boats! (eh-hem BLING).
This year we are suggesting people stay over night at the Embassy Suites Hotel. The plan is to meet at the Channel Islands Harbor launch ramp at 9am for a 10am departure. Heading to Santa Barbara to eat lunch at Brophy Bro's. After lunch, if weather permits (like last year) we'll head out to Anacapa and float around the Islands.
Saturday night dinner at Capastrano's @ the Embassy Suites Hotel. With drinks after in the bar. Dock space can be arranged if you wish to make a Sat/Sun out of it. Hopefully more ***boat members will make it this year. We had alot of interested parties that did a Catalina trip last year on the same day. Get out of the norm and do something different. Come have an awesome time with good people. For complete details and room resvos, click here:

Santa Barbara to Channel Islands Harbor or vise versa is about a 30-45 minute run down/up the coast. Last year there was one person that brought his Hustler down and ran back up with the group.
There is no ammenities on the Channel Islands. They are just cool to float around near and check out (crack a beer). It's about 14miles from the Channel Islands Harbor (Oxnard) to Anacapa Island. But from Santa barbara out it is ALOT further because they are south/west of S.B. Try to make it if you can. It'll be a good time for sure.

I'll be in a 24 Pantera that I'm sea trialing! It's a '95 with a new 496HO (Volvo version) so should run pretty good. Don't think it'll keep up with that hot rod Baja though! :D :D

Guest slips have been secured. If anyone is interested in leaving your boat in the water over night let me know. More info:
The question was asked when you'll need to show your reg. info to the Harbor Patrol.
The day of the run after we get back from S.B. will be fine. The Harbor Patrols office is off to the left, next to the Coast Guard station as you leave Channel Islands harbor via boat. There is a guest slip directly in front of the Harbor Patrol office you can tie up to.
I would like to know who is planning on leaving their boats in the water over night at the secured guest slips so I can give the Harbor Master a boat count. Even though they are not supposed to reserve spots they are going to. Let me know who is in for sure to keep their boat in the water.
Again, this will be ideal. You will be steps away from your truck/trailer. We have permission to leave the trailers, unhooked, over night at the launch ramp (next to the guest slips). It is a short 1/2 mile drive to the hotel from here. Then you can go run your boat the next day if need be.
The Channel Islands launch ramp is very user friendly with ample parking and a nice 6 lane flush area. 3 quaters is the cost to flush.
On a side note, it sounds as if parking your boat/trailer in the large parking lot next to the hotel will be do-able. This parking lot is a large "public access" parking lot for the city of Oxnard. I will also need to know how many people plan on leaving their boats and or trailers in this lot.
Thanks,
Tank

Well the boats spent as much time in the air as they did in the water if that tells you anything, i was amazed at how far a 42' Tiger could fly and how high.
No one was going to let go of the grab handles to take a picture.

Thought you guys might get a kick out of this. First of all, a few of the haters that live in Channel Islands Harbor complained about the "big" boats being so loud and disturbing the calm water. lol
Hmm, seems that if it takes some time to get down there, the boats will be gone. No problem.......
A couple of friends were out on the channel, and told me you guys were getting some mean air. They were tripping on how far out of the water the boats were, drying out the props. Glad you guys had a good run. Dont think I would have a boat left if I tried that.......
