GM BROADENS ITS COMMITMENT TO ASSIST HURRICANE VICTIMS . . . GM, the GM
Foundation and GMAC have increased their total pledge to the American Red
Cross to at least $1 million as part of its efforts to help provide
relief in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. This includes an immediate
cash donation from the GM Foundation and GMAC, employee donations and GM
Foundation matching funds, which no longer have a total dollar limit. GM
is also working to assist GM dealers affected by this devastating storm.
Here's an updated overview of some of the other relief efforts being
undertaken by GM, the GM Foundation and GMAC:
GM is making available up to 200 vehicles – including HUMMERS,
full-size SUVs, trucks and vans – for use by the American Red Cross
and other agencies in relief efforts throughout impacted areas.
OnStar extended its full range of services to all subscribers in eight
affected states, including the disaster sites as well as evacuee
locations.
GM Shreveport Operations in Shreveport, La., with support from other
GM plants, continues its drive to collect bedding and shelter supplies
for local Red Cross shelters housing the thousands of evacuees in
Shreveport. To date, more than 3,000 cots, air mattresses, blankets
and pillows have been distributed through the local Red Cross. Also,
in less than one week, employee collections at GMÂ’s Shreveport
facility generated $35,000.
GMAC continues to work with its automotive financing, insurance and
mortgage customers on a case-by-case basis. The GMAC family of
financial services has created specialized call centers, increased
field staffing, extended service center hours and developed employee
participation programs to reach those affected.
“The GM family is working closely with the American Red Cross to help
storm survivors as they begin to recover and move on with their lives,"
said Rod Gillum, GM vice president, corporate responsibility and
diversity, and chairman of the GM Foundation. “Hard work lies ahead for
the people and communities impacted by this tragedy, and I encourage GM
employees and dealers everywhere to support the relief and rebuilding
efforts by contributing online to the Red Cross Hurricane 2005 Relief
Fund.”
