Well I pulled some stuff from the other thread to start a new one. I'll keep the status updates here. Enjoy the pics.
Continued.....
I finally ran conduit, wired and plumbed this big ass compressor. I ran some more conduit and dropped in some more GFCI 110v recepticles so we could plug in all of the power tool stuff. A must! The has been cleaned and organized after all of this shuffling around. (after the pics)
Here are some pics from this morning and tonight. I had a couple of hours to continue stripping hardware. I'll have everything but the pump removed tomorrow night after work. I'm finished with my cart so we'll transfer the boat off of the ratty ass trailer here soon. I'm going to separate the deck from the hull as soon as we get it on the cart. Then we'll go ahead and rip out the rotted deck and stringers in prep for the transom work and filling in the intake hole. All of the wood in this boat is wasted and will be replaced. Moving right along here!
Compressor now in FLA and wired to 220. My brother popped together a stout work bench which ought to serve well in this garage.

I got a couple of hours in tonight after being away for a few days.
I got the top removed and also took out the floor and foam underneath. The only thing not rotton so far is the keel stringer..? I have no idea what type of wood it is but it's solid as hell and bare minus four straps of glass...? I'll get that, the stringers and the transom out before sunday. I have more pics of the finished results tonight but I'll get them up later.

I plan on starting a similar project very soon. Is that all that holds the hull and deck together is the strip of glass tape around the inside?

Back Forty
09-17-2005, 05:48 AM
Hey DD. Yes. There was no lip or flange. I zipped as much as I could from the inside which amounted to the rear half of the boat. I couldn't get the cutter in far enough from the mid point forward. I kept a light wedge to the seam and just made a very fine cut at the seem from the outside to separate the forward area. I didn't take pic's but the bulkhead under the bow was already out before I started this process.
I'll snap a pick of the separation point. At the seam area the hull is very visible and even has a small air gap between it and the CSM used to glass it all together(right at the seam) I'll grind all of that out before putting it back together.
I will say this, for the project's sake, separating the deck is by far worth the effort. The transom work alone will make it worth it. Also all of the wood used in the deck for bulkhead support including the dash needs replaced on this thing so having the deck off will make it a pleasure.
.
Malcom, funny you should mention itching. After I hosed off and hopped in the shower last night I was most definetly itchin' a little. :rollside:

Thanks. My thought would be to grind out the outside, after doing the inside, glass it in, and get rid of the rub rail.

Quick update. I've been away from this for about a week. I just got back to it last night. I removed the keel line stringer with a hammer and chisel. I was able to clean the wood out leaving the resin "potting" underneath from where they layed the stringer into place originally. I should have the rest out after Sunday. Here are a couple of pic's from last night.
http://images.snapfish.com/344%3A849523232%7Ffp58%3Dot%3E2335%3D%3C57%3D%3C45 %3DXROQDF%3E2323%3A%3C%3A%3A6%3B242ot1lsi
The wood was coming apart in decent sections. I never really needed to get into the glass with the chisel.

Engine stringers next and it's time to zip out the transom.

I see a new boat tool in one of the pics- a welders chipping hammer! :)
I haven't made as much progress as you, yet. I did get the pump ('cuzzi YJ) out yesterday. It looked as tho it wasn't installed correctly. The bowl O-ring was about a half-inch too far forward, at the bottom. It was not touching the bore of the transom adapter. The top was right on the edge. That explains the 20 pounds of silicone sealer that was around the transom adapter/ bowl joint. I am going to have to move the pump about 1 1/2 inches toward the stern, so it will seal properly, I hope! I contacted North American Jet, and they are sending me an installation kit. Templates and manual, etc.
Keep up the good work, and pics of your progress.

DD, what works ...! ;)
I have been dealing with rain lately so I'll just put up some pics of recent work.
Removing stringers.

I only found a couple of areas of discoloration below the stringers. It was under the port stringer.

Transom is rotten on the port side but the rest was fairly solid. All but the starboard section is out in this pic. The mat that was originally put around the original plywood section is the only thing left right now.

Interesting. The intake cutout in the bottom looks like it is in the same place as mine (5 inches forward). I got the templates. According to the instructions, if the transom angle is 7-13°, (mine is 11°) the cutout should start 3 inches from the outside of the transom, at the bottom corner, centerline. Oh-BTW- That is if the intake housing says "contour" on it.

DD This Jacuzzi intake was the "contour" model. I'm getting close to dropping in the first of the new materials. I found a local source for stringer material and some various marine plywood sources. This guy even had a nice endgrain cut balsawood cored plywood with mahagony skins. Nice and lightweight. I'm studying for a minute here on what to use and how to apply it.

Berk style something. After the hull is refinished, we'll figure out what to do exactly. HTP Duane is in our future.
