Hi, this is my first post here in the vdrive section, and I am currently the owner of a 78 Cheetah Jet Boat. I would like to build a super nice V-drive so I am on a quest to get a hull and came across a few laying around in this guys front yard. Anyway, there are 6 boats this guy is selling, and I am interested in 2 of them. I only want 1 boat, but 2 of the 6 sparked my interest. I really like the Dragoncraft hull, but not feelin the raised rear area. Could that be cut down lower and reshaped? Does anyone know where I can get pics of one of these Dragoncraft hulls complete? Is it a fast hull? The second boat I believe he said was a Cobra? something like that.....it has never been drilled, no hardware or engine installed....I like it but dont car for the wanna be chevy cowl scoop thing on the deck....just not feeling it LOL. Any info you guys may be able to give me on either of these hulls would be awesome! Thanks in advance.

The black one sort of looks like a hondo to me. It is a runnerbottom, I would snap that up in a minute over the dragoncraft hull. If the floor is solid, I would throw $500 at him.

Well he wants $1500 for boat and trailer for both hulls....which I know I can get him down a bit. He said he will throw in other goodies like a casale and some steering and a rudder. He has piles of vdrive parts! Anyway, the hull looks VERY solid on the boat, as it has never been drilled or rigged in anyway. There is no standing water inside either, and the stringers have not ONE ounce of rot.....this boat has not seen the water ever!
By the way, you could not tell in the pics but the trailer has had a lot of work done to it. Every weld has been ground perfectly smooth, it has electric brakes, it is fitted perfectly to the boat. It needs complete stripping and a paint job lol.

If he has a bunch of V-Drive parts it might be worth it. Throw $1k at him. You could take that dragoncraft and throw some paint on it in your backyard. Rig it less motor and probably sell it for $1k. Then take your time and focus on that runnerbottom, which is a quick hull.
The black boat looks like it just needs to be washed, the gel doesnt look too bad. I am also not even seeing a hole in the back where the stuffing box goes, which could mean it was never rigged or had the floors done.

I wouldn't take either of them....find a boat (with a decent trailer) that has most of the hardware allready there. Price will be comparable to 1500 and you'll have a much better starting point. I've seen some nice dragon crafts and a few of them were quick on the drag courses but they're not very popular (hard to sell later). The runnerbottom looks like it needs everything but I think is the better of the two. I don't believe its a Hondo.
If your thinking about using the hardware from the dragon to use on the runner don't do it. my 02 good luck.

the first boat looks like a dragoncraft (yuk) do yourself a favor and save a few more grand and buy a hull in better condidtion.....(unless u got deep pockets) those hulls look pretty rough. just the trailer will run u a grand to fix right......there is a dragoncraft for sale with pics on dragboatcity.com if u want to look at one finished.......

I would not buy those, tooooo much work, and toooo much money, there are many deals around, you just have to look. Someone recently had a hondo, for 800.00. I have two project boats, If you want to do some work, you can have one for 400.00. needs a stringer job. I just do not have the time.

I think he's saing the guy wants 1500 for a boat and trailer, take you pick of one out of the two for the 1500, which is incredibly to high, i've bought boats better looking and all around nicer for $500, Save a little more and buy a boat that has been rigged and is still some what intact (ex. flat minus engine w/mounts for $3000) I have looked at a few hulls never rigged before that look to been sitting for 10 years or so, There is a usually reason ! ! ! ! some type of problem with the mold, first or second boat out of the mold for a new owner of the mold (experimental run, not know how much wood or glass to lay up in certain crucial areas.) Ive brought home my share of shit piles that im embarassed to say i owned and beat my my head against the wall for up to 2 years on one to sell it because it was crap. Fell my pain or find out for your self, its all on you.

Well, gotta say I love my Dragoncraft.
She's been good to me for the past 25 years.
And another 11 before I bought her. (Laid up in 1969)
Definitely will give you a wild flight.... ummm....ride. :2purples:
I thought mine was getting "tired" until I saw the photos
posted here. Wow! Way too much work needed to make
it lake ready. Maybe a good parts boat though.

ID?
If those were wood, they'd be firewood.
D'craft has to be the ugliest hull ever made.

That black Hondo looks like it's never had a hole drilled in it. I would not think 1,500 is to much for it. That is if it does not have water damage and all that.
Heck, if that was a B boat he'd be asking double that.
I think a new Canyon is around 8,500 bare hull with NO trailer. I know it's not a Canyon but a guy could make a nice flat out of that deal.
All I'm sayin is I've seen guys pay more and then rip the floor out and re-do it all any way.
Jake, that deck looks ok to me. I think the smudge in the dirt is throwing you off.
