wont upshift,2nd to 3rd,3rd to 4th it feels like it just hits a wall, lever goes up and no gear locks in,also pops outta gear sometimes,,,,NORTH COUNTY YAMAHA says they cant duplicate the problem so they wont tear into the tranny,my guess is a bend shift fork or bad shift barrel or someting, its been back to NCY 2 times, total lenght about 40 days, those guys suck,I will never spend another dime there. We bought 4 atvs there last year, all in one purchase, cash, and they still wont help me.Its frustrating driving to the dez and after about a mile it just wont shift right,so when i go over the bars at 50 this season i guess a lawyer will handle it!

try taking it the rev limiter and then hitting 2-3rd. not being a smart ass but those quads HATE to be short shiftted.not meant to be"cruised" around. there is a known problem with the 2-3rd deal though on earlier 450's to be fair.

This reminds me of the old days, only back then we didn't use "shots"... Mouthful of Stoli (at the time, it was yummy), then a quick shot of Fresca in there, swish and swallow. I think I'll go try that again right now, actually... :D

I had very similar problem with my 426, tore the motor a part and it had bent forks, dogs on the gears where rounded, etc... I believe it cost me close to 700.00 to repair. Sold that, bought a CRF and I couldn't be happier.
It's funny I used to think motorcycle trannies were indestructable because of the abuse they sustain in shifter karts, but apparently 4-strokes are more than some can handle.

I have an 04' TRX 450r for sale. Selling it to help finance a boat. I'm asking $8500, but I'm using the money to buy a used boat so I will also use it as a partial trade if there is an offer. The quad has about 40 miles on it; one tank of gas. Janessen long-travel suspension +3/+1, Elka quad rate shocks with piggyback rezzie in front and an Elka duel rate shock in the rear with an Elka linkage and remote rezzie. Duncan Fatboy4 exhaust with a turndown and spark arrestor. Vortex programmable ignition. HRC kit installed by Motoworld. ITP beadlock rims, 4/1 front and 3/5 rear. Quad is 49" wide. 23" Holeshots in front, 22" in rear. Duncan bumper. Pep steering stablizer. Full chassis and swing arm skid plates. IMS desert tank 3.8 gal. Dominator axle. Renthal bars. Tether kill switch. Acerbis Rally II hand guards. +1" foam in the seat. Roll Design footpegs with kickups. Carbon fiber hood.
The quad was set up to race BITD, but a recent addition to my family has changed my lifestyle. Quad was never raced; in fact only ridden four times. It is flawless. Email me at jonmcevoy@hotmail.com. I have a ton of pictures.

My brother just called me and he is selling his 2005 yfz 450 special edition (yellow, black carbon fiber look) for $6500.
It has been riden 4 times and only to the dunes once. He just doesn't use it since he moved to Vegas. Bike is located in the Phoenix area and it is spotless. Very good condition. Been sitting for a few months now with the battery tender on it. Bike is all stock and comes with a 5 year extended warranty.
PM me if interested.

Like pretty much everybody is saying go down to LA Cycle Sports. You can actually get quotes very easy on the internet. The quotes are exactly what you will pay OTD. The website is www.otdcyclesports.com I just picked up a 2006 CRF450R for $5800 out the door and for my wife they still had 2005 TRX400 quads for $4999 out the door. I got them last Thursday. Pull up they are ready out front sign papers they load them and you are on your way in about 30 minutes. If yo uare looking for Yamaha it is the same website, but the physical location to get the bike is in Marina Del Rey.

Go to Hahm. I picked up a couple of 06 quads last year. No one would beat LA cycle for me. They did, by 100 bucks...AND gave me 20% off of anything else.
I put the HRC kit on my 450 and it flat out hauls ass.
FYI...not sure if it was mentioned yet, the Yamaha 450 has a ton of power waiting to be unleashed with just a turn of the stock cam.
