I bought a set of Eagle H-beam rods for my 547 inch Dodge buildup. I have heard two stories of two separate rods breaking off at the pin end. Has anyone else heard the same thing, or better yet, have a good experience with these rods? I liked these rods due to the fact that there are so many combinations available.

wsuwrhr: I am sure if you check into those stories they from the early days of Eagle. About 6 years ago? They have since established a good QA program. They x-ray each rod.
I use a set in my blown injected alcohol 509 Chevy. Be sure to get the L-19 bolts.

Thanks, I just checked the rods and mine have the 8740 bolts. I looked at the ARP catalog and the L-19 looks like a better bolt. What is the output of your 509? I have a KB block with Indy wedge heads, Jesel belt drive, t/d machine rockers, indy t-ram with dual 1050's. I am hoping for 800 HP. Isn't alcohol a pain in the ass to deal with? It eats anything aluminum, and readily sucks up moisture.

wsuwrhr Desktop dyno says 1,000 HP. This is with a very small tune up. Alcohol is much less expensive than race gas. I do not let it sit in anything aluminum. All the tanks are stainless. Drain the system after I get out of the lake. Never sits in the tank more than a week. Keep it in the garage in a sealed 55 gal drum. Drum costs $72.00

wsuwrhr,
I have a set of eagle rods in my drag boat motor. When i originally built it i bought them new and put them in a 477 ci bbc alc inj motor, 720 hp at 7200 dyno results. Ran this combo for 3 years, pulled motor apart and bored it to 505 ci changed pistons put on 871 blower. Dynoed 1056 hp at 7200 over 1000# of torque. raced in PE for last 2+ yrs. Plan on racing them this year. If I buy new rods they will be Eagles again. I'm sold on them.
Good luck with your project.

I have a Jeff Blosdale built 510 with an 871. Jeff uses Eagle rods in his motors, and has said good things about them.
