I no longer have Cingular service in certain area's and I have not been happy with their service anyway so I want to switch carriers and go to Nextel.
However, Im still in my contract for 2 phones and I need to know if there is ANY way to get out of that damn contract but still keep my phone number as I've had it for almost 6 years now.

Nextell sucks worse. Same if not worse service for more $$$$$. I've had Sprint, nextell and now verizon. I should have never left Sprint.

Good point. If you have an option of buying stock or somehow making a commission off the insurance, make sure to put that in place too. It was almost a phone a week there for a while. :D :D :D
Sorry T. You're still my favorite. :D

You think coverage with Cingular is bad??? Wait till you get to Nextel. I had Nextel for about three years and the coverage got worse as time went by. Customer service sucks. You can't call and get a decent answer but if you call back with the same question you can get a wrong answer and then call again and get a completely different correct answer.
I have Cingular now and am much happier with the coverage and I do get to alot of different places and have never really had a problem. I would stay away from Nextel. Just my .02
Oh yeah, my dad had Nextel also and he had the insurance on the phone. It got wet and he was told that anything to do with water is not covered. he had to BUY a new phone. He promptly cancelled the insurance.

Not in Parker....AT&T/Cingular is the best I have had for the places I go...It all depends where you spend your time.

Actually what matters is where the nearest Cell site is located and if the local Cellular company is doing there best to block other carriers signals (Citizens Mohave) But if you call Verizon first... they will gladly tell what there coverage is in that area or the areas you frequent and not sell you a phone that will not work, like the other companies mentioned.

I would like to keep Cingular but I recently moved and do not get cell service at the house. 80% of my calls are on my cell and I am now finding my service sucks at the lake when Im out there on the water. With AT&T I had service ALL over the lake, now nothing. Those are both big issues with me. My daughter has a Nextel, gets service just about everywhere on the lake, and also at the house. Most of my calls are back and forth with people that do use Nextels so I figured the direct call feature would be beneficial to me.
As far as customer service, trust me when I say I had the worse experience with Cingular and let my temper get the best of me last week when I told them to take their service and stick it after having it for 6 years. I was in their office and was dealing with someone that wasn't trained and could not help with my questions, correct my bill, or even take a payment. Then I had to wait for 45 minutes while a manager helped someone else (the line was out the door with pissed off customers) and then was told I had to call the 800 number and speak with someone there since I have a special corporate plan. I had tried the 800 number for 3 days and kept being directed back to the main menu and was at the end of my rope when I braved the store in the first place. I paid my bill FINALLY and told them to shut my service off, period. Then when the smoke cleared and I could think straight I called to check on other services and was told I couldnt get my old number until I paid the "cancellation" fee on my contract. Nothing makes me mad quicker than poor customer service and it seems thats all there is lately.
I have self inflicted cell phone withdrawals as I have been without service for a week. Stubborness will be the death of me Im sure.

I have Verizon and they have the best coverage IMO. When we do our river trips we go with a group that has a phone from every carrier and I'm the only one that gets a siganl. Parker, Mead, Mohave (above the power lines too) I get a siganl everywhere. I have Had sprint and they were OK but not great. My sister has Nextel and Hates them. Besides, with verizon you can join the IN network and call anyone else on verizon for free.

i have worked for cingular and t-mobile, and the most important thing to do is figure out where you are going to use the phone the most and talk to friends and family from that area and ask them what they use... no phone is going to work everywhere all the time... when i used to sell the phones i would always say "i will not gaurantee this phone will even work in your house" so just ask around.... each company has their good and bad points....

Verizon will not work near Parker dam....only Cingular...if that has changed it has been in the last 6 months cause that was the last time I tried to use a Verizon phone and it would not work there.

Well, I have had my verizon phone for over 2 years and it worked at the dam, bluewater, echo, roadrunner and only had a couple of dead spots. It also depend on the phone itself. Some phones have better reception than others. I still use an LG vx4500 which is known for its great signal. Although the LG battery is crap the phone works almost everywhere.

Can any of you remember a time when you used to go boating and didn't have a cell phone, i do, and all we ever worried about was having gas and beer in the boat and a paddle if we ran out of either!!!
I have Cingular and have since 1998, and while they had problems in the past, the service now is great wherever i boat, Mohave, Parker, and up in Fresno at Millerton, and the local So cal lakes.

There is no VzW site that far N on the strip to support cell service up by th damn. They do have a site in Parker that gives great service from the casino up to about RiverLand. I also get great EVDO aircard reception in River Reflections. VzW does have a MW site up on Black Metal Mtn but no cell equipment (BTS). I've been trying to get RF to put one in there. I have a pic of the strip and Havadoo from the tower and the coverage would be awesome from that site...
Squeaky wheels get the grease. Call customer service and let them know how much revenue they are losing...

I believe that after the merger, Cingular sold off some of their network (claimed to be redundant) to T-mobile or MetroPCS. Check one of their phones in your area.
Good Luck.

Some of the things I like about verizon wireless are that I can check my e-mail, get weather radar, take pictures and videos with my phone and easily transfer them to my computer via the trans flash card. And I can hook up my laptop to the cell phone with a USB cable and surf the net. The connection speed is not bad. Plus it has blue tooth, witch works with a wireless headset. The headset is awesome it has voice commands. Just push a button and say Name dial and than the name. Its that easy.

Yea it's a Motorola headset and I have the V710 phone. I heard that you can not get the V710 phone anymore
If you have a v710 this is a good place to get Info v710.org (http://www.v710.org/forums/)
