Plans?
Are you familiar with the geometry of pipe? Are you familiar with how to use a reciprocating saw?

How bibg a pipe you thinking of making? We use to ride(freestyle bikes) off the 2nd story roof to drop down into our halfpipe... Fun :)

I use a full pipe. My son is only 12, that's why I'm looking to build a 1/2 pipe for him. :)

I'm guessing 4' or so. Maybe 5' if the wife will let me.

If you type "half pipe plans" into Google, you will get loads of hits. Here's one that may interest you.

Wow, 1/2 pipes. That brings back some memories. Launch ramps were another fun project. Then it was speaker boxes. :D :D :D

Ask for your kid's input as well because he is going to be the one riding it. If the dimensions on it suck it won't be any fun to rid. Ask him what type of coping he wants. He can go anywhere from pool coping, metal or pvc. We always use to surface our half pipes with masonite.

If this thing is left outside, then you have to take great care to protect the surface. Warping, etc can cause crashes because wheels get caught.
Best surface material = Skatelite, but very expensive
Use metal pipe for coping - it can handle the abuse
Go to www.spohnranch.com to buy Skatelite. They may have some old wood ramps in the warehouse that they could part with.
They also give details on their construction techniques (materials, etc)

Thanks.
