Hi all,
I am considering purchasing a boat with Mercury 502 EFIs.
Was really looking for HP 500s or HP525s but it looks like a good deal.
Does anyone on the board know the differences between these three motors?
I was reading the specs 500 vs 525 and it looks like the only difference between these two are that the 525 comes with aluminum heads and fresh water cooling.
Then I was looking at the 502. Doesn't seem to be a whole lot different.
Now I'm wondering if there are known (reliable) upgrades that can be done to the 502 EFI to get basically the same motor as the HP525?
Any help you guys can offer would be greatly appreciate.

I have been looking into this as well, since I will be refreshing my 502 this winter. I have found some upgrades for this motor that will bump the hp up to +/- 505 according to Tyler Crockett. Look here. (http://www.crockettmarineengines.com/products.html)

Kevin,
Thanks for the info. It looks like we may both be going through the same build. I'm thinking alumimun heads as well. Any mention of this with Tyler?

No, I didn't talk to him about aluminum as I wasn't wanting to spend the extra $$$. I can get enough hp out of the ones I have with the bigger valves so my existing ones will work for me. Good luck on your build.
