Just finished watching the original "Gone In 60 Seconds" [1974] on SPEEDTV.
In the first 10 minutes there is a boat I would like some help in identifying - it is a 20/21 foot PICKLEFORK day cruiser - can't tell for sure if it is stern drive, or jet. Don't believe it was a v-drive, because there was one shot with most of the hull out of the water - enough to see that there was not a prop shaft, but not enough to tell what was in the back.
It had an enclosed engine compartment with thru the transom exhaust, and a rear bench seat.
Watched the credits, and there was no mention of the boat.
Any ideas out there ? ? ?

Gentlemen -
I have TIVO'd the part with the boat, and after a frame by frame search, I have to conclude it is NOT a v-drive, and it IS some kind of picklefork 'air entrapment' hull, but that is all I can tell - no name shows up on the boat.
Strikes me it might be a good candidate for a very fast day cruiser.
Back in the 80's, former NASCAR driver Lake Speeds brother had a 21' day cruiser with twin turbos and nitrous that was supposed to be able to bust 100, but I believe it was a V-hull Sleekcraft.

My first phone call in the morning is going to be to Greg Shoemaker - maybe he might know what it is, or know somebody who does.
My curiosity is killing me, and it is a damn fine looking boat with great possibilities - once it is painted something other than green.

A friend of mine owns the red Hemi Cuda in the movie. I'll see if he knows anything about it.

Contacted Greg Shoemaker this morning, and he had a couple of good ideas, but the movie being made in 1974 ruined them.
I have sent him a clip from the movie with the boat, and hopefully he will be able to determine what it is - and maybe where someone could find one.

I think it's a Sleek Craft . They've built 21 and 23 footers look alike . There's an ugly brown 23' with a jet on okanagan lake , original owner .

Greg Shoemaker just called - he took a good look and ran the picture by a couple of friends, and this is what they have come up with.
His first impression [based on the way the deck was done], was that it was a Glastron/Carlson, but after further consideration, he has decided that it is probably a HORIZON.
He said he thinks the son of the HORIZON builder is in Arizona somewhere - anybody have any clues?
His other comment was, that it was the first one he had ever seen in over 30 years.

TAYLORMANSS -
You and me both - I have set up my computers "search engine" to seek out "picklefork daycruiser", "Horizon", "Glastron/Carlson", or any combination thereof.
But if G. Shoemaker, and his buddy Dennis, had never seen one before, they must be rare.

who has the movie? you know at the end of the flick the producers usually acknowledge the boat and car makers.

One thing to keep in mind guys is that a lot of times they would modify a boat or build a special one off deal just for a particular movie.

I have a copy of the movie that I taped off of SPEEDTV when they showed it - and the credits make absolutely no mention of cars and boats.
In the interview before the movie with his wife, most of the cars were supplied from the wrecking yard he owned, or were supplied by friends. My guess would be the same about the boat.
Greg Shoemaker also suggested it might be a "one off" - or that somebody stuck a picklefork front end on an existing hull - but that still doesn't explain why in the one semi-decent shot of the boat out of the water, the bottom appears to be air entrapment.
Also, this movie was made on a shoestring budget, so I don't imagine they would have spent a bunch of bucks sticking a "Texas Tunnel" type picklefork front on some kind of semi-V hull.
This is quickly becoming a case of "the more I learn, the less I know".

Can you tape it again and close the drapes over the plant near the window behind you. Damn glare is making it difficult to see the picture ;) :D
