How in the hell do they think they can predict the path of a hurrican?
Check these out.
Rita prediction. (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7845030)
Look at the path of the other Hurricans. Doesn't look very predictable to me.

Well lets see. They've been doing it for years and every year technology gets better and they always seem to be pretty close. They nailed where Katrina was going to go.

The National Hurricane Center uses at least five computer models. The single track you see on the news is often the average of the tracks from the various models (although the people at the NHC can adjust the track based on their expertise and other factors). There's all kinds of info about the models on the NHC site. Here are the current models for Rita:

Look at the path of Katrina compared to Jeanne and Charley.
Then where the chart says Rita is going. It's like drunk driving.

Out in the Gulf with all that warm water besides getting stronger :crossx: there are lots of factors that can change it's course , ....fronts, upper wind shear , along with the regular air currents trends  hell it could just stall out for days ,then go a completely new route

If you look at the predicted sustained winds ???
at 48 hrs. its 143mph .....but at 72hrs. it drops to 137mph..
for some reason to me , being out in the Gulf and all that Warm Water ...I just dont see that happening , it should get only stronger ???? No ??

pjones, I work 25mi.south of San Antonio....stay in an Apartment till days off...
I live in Orange Grove , About 20mi.north of Corpus Christi , house on 20 acres ....thats what I am most concerened about :( only about 35 / 40 mi. inland :( but I am on High ground , its the gusts and small twisters you gotta watch out for :skull: last hurricane that went in by Brownsville spawned lots of little twisters..one came across my yard and up rooted 2 very large Oak trees and threw them against the house ,, no damage though

Since you've been throught it all before I guess you're
all prepared. Will you go further inland or try to ride it out?

Liberator TJ1984

usually around here its not so bad , but further inland you go the more chance of big Tornadoes , the one that hit Brownsville spawned them all the way to Laredo across almost to Austin :(

Not to be a deek but as long as it ain`t comin here I`m cool. The storm was bad but it was after when the levee broke is where the hell began here. And that was all do in part to the pumps not ever being turned on.

Yeah, I heard Mayor Nagin and Governor Landreau blamed President Bush for not turning on the pumps

Hurricane prediction is a science like Voodoo is a religion.
Bob, Bob, Bob. It's a science - not yet an exact one but it is a science. And the bozos in front of the TV cameras don't predict storms - they rely on the experts and simply regurgitate what they hear from them.
So, you doing voodoo every Sunday morning? :D :yuk:

Since I own property in the FL Panhandle I watch these things very close. They have been pretty close on the predictions especially 3-4 days before landfall. I sure hope they are wrong or the media has over hyped Rita. I feel for the people in her path. Not good.

Hey Hoss, how'd you fare in all the aftermath?
And wonder why the pumps were'nt turned on?
And furthermore who was responsible for that decision ?

The Mayor.

So if the mayor is in charge of the pumps, wonder if
the city maintenance engineer is in charge of the city finances,
budget, etc..? hmmmm? interesting...oh well...
there's a whole lotta questions to be answered in the future
over this debacle...

The media likes to blame everything on the Mayor. He's in charge of the city.
I watched the Today Show the other morning and Matt was grilling the Mayor of New Orleans about his decisions. The Mayor shot back and asked Matt if he'd like to switch jobs. LMFAO!!!
Good for him.

490 miles off the coast moving slightly east every 20 miles. Looks like Houston could be in for the eye.
With the city of Houston being only 50 miles inland in could be stronger than a cat 1 when it hits the city. Not good.

That's amazing to watch the progress. Thank God the winds are down to 125mph. Imagine the damage if it made landfall at 175mph. :2purples:
