I'm considering purchasing the 25' Tempest. Any feedback?

I personally do not like the lines on that boat, but Essex makes a quality boat that you should be very happy with. BTW, welcome to the boards.

I hear from a current Essex owner that they are offering $5K to current owners towards an upgrade to the 27' Raven. Much nicer looking boat in my opinion - plus the extra length. I am sure if you were serious and pushed them, they would give you the same deal.
The Tempest looks too much like a Sea-Doo boat to me. Just my opinion, though.
The Tempest reminds me of this - with the two little raised windshield areas.

As long as your happy with the boat, that is all that matters. Essex builds a GREAT boat that is very well constructed when comnpared to some others out there. We're on our second and could not be happier. The 27 is a fantastic boat! I watched it being built from the from the ground up to the plug, to the mold. Excellent lines, all new original tooling, just a really great looking boat.

Our last boat was an Essex and I'll echo what HD said...great boat...but I can't stand the lines on the Tempest. I guess a lot of people also can't as they haven't sold many...ask what the price difference is to move up to the Raven. The 27' will handle the bigger lakes better. But...if you like the looks of the Tempest - go for it. Not a more solid boat built on the left coast.

Some friends of ours have one and they love it, pretty stout looking boat. My own opinion is I do not like the overall look of that particular model. If you like it then thats all that matters. Par for par Essex buils a quality boat. Good luck, and dont limit your search to only on builder.

I personally do not like the lines of the Tempest. Kind of that Bat-mobile thing doesn't do it for me.
For that kind of money, and the beauty of custom boating, is that YOU like it.
That said, I have the Essex 24' Valor and could not be happier. Solid boat, top of the line rigging with Eddie Marine stock etc. I do my boating on Lake Mohave and have encountered to best of the worst the lake can offer. The boat handles it all just fine.
You'll find that Essex is not the fastest boats and a little on the heavier side. That accounts for the solid ride. Worth it on a big lake. So you go 65 instead of 70mph.
Be sure to get the 496HO. You'll feel it getting on plane and in mid-range acceleration. And a couple miles an hour on the top end.
