Hmmmm. I know they're not the same, but my Exturdsion gets 16.5 in town average.
Strange, I have a friend with a F350 CC dually. He is also running a straight pipe and getting 11 average. We have 2 F350 duallys here at work and they get around 15.
You think the lack of back pressure might be causing the problem ?

stock they get 15 to 18 on the hwy,do you also have a chip or programer to increase performance?

get the led out. deisels are very sensative to rpm when it comes to fuel mileage. are you led footing it? thats the problem if so. in my f550 i see a huge mileage differance from 65mph to 70+mph. its all in the rpm. wether towing or empty, not much differance in mileage, but rpm makes a world of differance.

u need to put a good muffler on it...something like the 3" Dynamax & as donzi22 says...put a chip in it...they should get around 15/18mpg on the hwy...most people i know that have the 7.4 diesel are getting that mpg or better & the 6.0 is supposed to be a much better mtr...just tinker with it a little...nothing to lose...just my .02 cents

I tried runing it in the Performance mode +155hp
no difference in mileage to speak of , just alot peppier on the response , and alot more smoke ;)
was told it was not good to run in that mode all the time ? so I put it back to stock settings
most is Hwy miles at 2200 rpm = 75mph+-
A 3" Gibson open muffler is in the works

damn, 2200rpm at 75+mph? thats low. ok so disregard the previous post, just shot that one out the water. lets hope the muffler works for ya.

My old powerstroke got 18mpg and i drive like crap, 90 mph everywhere! But when i needed more power i had to go back to the old 460! ;)

yea Victor thats what I can't figure out, since I put it back to Stock settings , it is not adjusted to the tire ratio.....but at 2200rpm it is showing 75 mph , which would probably be right above 80mph corrected ???
guess there is no set mpg by what you guys are posting :D

If your speedo /odo is not corrected for tire size it will decrease your actual miliage and make your miliage appear to be worse than actual because the odo is off.miles traveled will be more than odo reading when you have taller tires.any Ford dealer can reset your speedo/ odo I will do it for free if your ever in Utah.

I would think that your mpg's on the truck are not accurate considering your tire size change. I think what you need to do is determine what % larger your tires are and then add that to you mileage. Another thing you may want to take a look at are your injectors, if they are not working properly that will affect gas mileage.

On my Ford trucks the speedo is over by 5% stock and with the 35" tires it is under by 10% according to GPS, so its ruffly 15% off with 35" tires. :D

chris, those tires are not helping. the 285/75-16' on my duramax put a ding in mileage as well as that front replacement bumper. btw, my duramax gets better mileage w/programmer on blast.

Scott, I kinda noticed a hit too, just thinking Fords are getting really bad fuel mileage ??? one guy here at work with '05 4x4 Dodge Cummins and programmer is getting like 25-28mpg :supp:
all together with both tanks , I got about 70gal.capacity , his truck holds 28gal. but it seems we still run out of fuel pretty close at the same time

'93 Dodge 350 Cummins, 5 speed, 235/85/16's, 3.55 gears, 1800 rpm @ 65, motor turned up from 165 at the crank to 249 at rear wheels (estimated right at 300hp at crank). I got 20.4 mpg from Tacoma to Sacremento, normally get 17 mpg around town empty, about 15 mpg towing 11,000 lb 30' 5th wheel :p .
Whats the problem with the Fords (other than they're Fords :hammerhea :crossx: )

Only thing I can think of ???............ since the 6.0 is a V8..maybe it thinks it needs to drink like the old 460's  :D
