Great stuff man
Yep they are cool unless you live and work on it 12 on 12 off lol.
And sleep (try to) under the catapult or arresting gear.
Phantoms were still in service then as well as f-14's

Did anyone see the blurb that the last 2 active squadrons of F-14's set out on their last cruise a week ago???
After this one, no more Turkeys on the deck. :frown:
Cool pics of the museum, never have made it there yet, one of these days though.

I think its open all day every day. They have headsets to use that have taped explanation of the different areas around the ship.

The Midway is a museum...open everyday. Best time to go to San Diego is when the Ronald Regan is in port. My LT is doing his annual training onboard with a few of my shipmates from my unit.

Great pics. I've been by the Midway quite a few times on land and water and would love to do the tour. Just seems that every time I've been in SD, I'm running about 4,000 different directions and just never had the time.
We were over there when the Reagan came in to port for the first time and it was an amazing experience. It was front page news in the SD and there were half a dozen different fireworks displays going to mark the occasion. :D

Having been a destroyer sailor what I found most incredible about these ships are how friggin big they are. When we were in Japan way back when, we had to have chow on a carrier for some reason, I forget why, but even with a map of these things you can get so lost that you would have to ask to be shown topside. There are so many decks and compartments that your sense of direction is of no use, it's very confusing to say the least. They say you could have a buddy on there and never run into him during a full tour of duty!!. I beleve the crew numbered over 3 thousand ????. Great pic's, thanks. It brings back many memories ( USS Lyman K. Swenson DD729 1960-62) :D NSF

Thats the Forecastle, where the anchor chains are, the Junior officers quarters were on this level, they mentioned the the shower water always had a fragrance of jet fuel.
BTW, the USS Ronald Reagan was there Sunday, you can see it in the backround in one of those pics, funny, we saw it in Pearl Harbor when we went to the USS Arizona/USS Missouri tour last winter, it's like it was following us. Here's me and another Phantom. Mark

I was stationed on the Midway in 83-84 IO cruse 111 days at sea. a record for the time. I worked on RF-4B's, they are marine recon aircraft. The Ship lost aleast 4 planes and about 4 or 5 dudes on that cruse .

I served on the Midway back in the 70's. Went there right out of boot camp. As a matter of fact, its where I made Seaman First Class. ;)

Thx for the pics....the family and i just did that tour and yes it's way worth the $ it was amazing how small the open spaces were, im 6'4'' and i had to crouch all over the boat, and the walkways were so thin.Everyone should do it.
