Went to go pump some gas today... VISA declined... WTF?
Called the credit card company. Someone decided to pull $8,000 off my card today in Bucharest, then buy some tickets to the circus. I guess they planned on buying a nice elephant.

Bought anything online recently?
Yep ... just figured out that my PayPal acct has been hacked into. Now I gotta go change my password for all my junk. That's gonna be a lot of work. They evidently scored my password. Beats the shit out of me how... I'm very careful with doing biz online. The only people that have my password are myself and the entire staff at DCB.

I'm not on the hook... but the credit card company takes the punch. Too bad, this shit happens all the time, it's just built into what we pay for goods and services.

You didn't respond to any of those bogus emails asking for Paypal update info did you?

hey boxscore, just happenned to me too. I think PayPal is the common denominator here. Mine was a debit card though and it was out of money. They tried to charge $1.00 through AOL and then $100.00 in Romania. Both were declined luckily. I think the Paypal scam to update info was the culprit. Good luck to ya.

wow $12 grand in parker..... thats a lot of meth!
That's the truth. Had my wallet stolen out of my truck at the Chevron in Parker last summer. Before I realized it was gone, they had racked up about $12K on 4-5 different cards. I paid $0. We went and got a really good description of the thief and her car and the police couldn't have cared less.

It's definately a scam under the guise of PayPal. I've figured out this evening how I was duped. I responded to an email that I thought was from PayPal.... big mistake. It's seems that it'd be pretty easy to bust the network no matter where they operate from... but I guess we aint got the reach or cooperation to bust criminals operating out of Eastern Europe.

And on a similar note....
Never respond to a "Second chance offer" on Ebay, which sez you can still purchase the item you were outbid on.
Except for the fact it was written in either Russian or Urkranian, the damn thing looked real. After about four or five attempts, one finally came over in English. These things continued to pour in for two weeks.

Just as a point of fact, second chance offers are real, I use them all the time.
Not all of them are real.
I guess the best recourse is to contact the seller to verify before you accept one.
I have an interesting story a recent purchase/scam, maybe I'll PM it to you to get your thoughts.
