Has anyone taken a 427 BBC and bored it to a 468 cu in.? Found an engine that I'm interested in, but that much from an early (1968) model block seems like alot.Is there enough steel in the cylinder walls left to still run without problems? One of the cylinders is already sleeved which tends to tell me watch out!
Thanks to the gear head gurus...

Fired Up, there are lots of 468 BBC out there. To go from 427 to 468 is not that difficult, but you need some basic info first.
427 = 4.250" bore x 3.760" stroke (internally balanced)
454 = 4.250" bore x 4.000" stroke (externally balanced)
468 = 4.310" bore x 4.000" stroke (externally balanced)
As you can see the 468 is a bored AND stroked 427 OR a bored 454.
To make your 427 a 468 you will need to bore it .060" over and add the crank from a 454. Since the 454 is externally balanced you will also have to add the balancer and flexplate/flywheel from a 454.
Since that one sleeved cylinder may be a problem(have a machinist check it out!)and you need to come up with some 454 parts anyway, why not just get a 454 and work from there? Might prove to be less hassle in the long run.

Thanks for the reply. This engine has a stock (stroke)crank in it. Ideally I do want a 454, but when I found this particular engine It seemed like a good deal with a lot of components I was looking for. Further research (casting numbers)disclosed the block type.

Stay away from the 427.I was told that sleeving one cylinder is not good as it stresses the block.There are many alternatives and you will find some good deals.If you are on a budget,buy your parts here and there until you have every thing you need.I think you can purchase a shortblock from a GM dealership.Good Luck
