The speedometer has never worked since I purchased my boat. I replace the pitot tube and check the vaccum like suggested with no luck in getting it to work. I pulled the speedometer from my boat today and took it apart. It is an old teleflex model. The inside looked a little corroded especially inside the vaccum nipple. Not sure what to do now. Everyone says they are not accurate, but I would like to get it working. Is there someone that can rebuild it? I found a similar one on Ebay. I was thinking of purchasing it and taking the guts out and putting it into mine but the vaccum nipple was in a different place than mine. Any idea's on what to do? The boat is pretty much original so I would like to keep as much of the vintage stuff as possible.

TIGGER,
With a little luck, you should be able to get it working. Many years ago, I called Teleflex and had a long talk with a very helpful person. He said that speedo's that weren't accurate were usually wrong at the request of the boat mfg. There was a time when a few manufacturers did it. It's possible to get lucky and have a speedo and GPS that read very nearly the same, mine does.
The hose that runs from the pitot to the speedo carries air pressure, not vacuum. The following is from Teleflex.....about 25 years ago.
MPH = PSI
20 = 5.3
25 = 7.46
30 = 10.9
35 = 14.8
40 = 19.36
45 = 24.5
50 = 30.25
60 = 43.56
Good luck :)

Thanks old guy. My line was filled with water when I took it apart. The gauge number is MK270. How do I get it to work? Does someone out there have the same gauge that they no longer need?
