The rudder isnt attached! He probablly took it off cause it hangs down pretty deep. You need to go to the coors light world finals in november and see them run. They are impressive;) Oh did I mention that they are local??? Firebird raceway;)

So your are saying a rudder goes in the vertical slot? Does this boat just run circles? I assume circles since the rudder is offset if that is what it is.

I am not the expert, but the rudder does go in the vertical slot. The rudder
is removed so it doesn't drag on the ground, hydros SHOULD "blow the tail" meaning the rear of the boat should be out of the water at speed. Since the tail is out of the water so far, the rudder needs to be longer.
"Outboard steering" This hydro is a DRAG hydro, so the rudder is outboard. It is offset to enable the prop, shaft and underwater gear to be removed with the rudder in place. The prop is placed so far back that the rudder needs to be outside the boat.
DRAG hydros do not turn for shit, I am sure this is a good thing since it is easier to make them go straight anyway.

SKI hydros have the rudder in the traditional location. BTW. "Inboard steering"

F.Y.I.
I know several people who have (previously had) a Bitz boat.
I have yet to hear a single one of them to say that they would ever get another one...
