Well folks, dont ask me how I got nominated for this.....but here is what I have so far, time is getting short, so make arrangements best you can !!!!
Thunder on the James II
Lake James
Morganton NC
Oct 29th and 30th
Unfortunately the cabins and campground are out this year, I will reserve my comments on that for a later date. Due to the late timing, the Hampton Inn is limited in availability, therefore our group will be split up in regards to sleeping arrangements. Here is what I have, any help is appreciated to further along....
Hampton Inn
9 rooms block reserved (2 queen size per room)
Tell them you are with the BOTE group, $75 per night (best deal available for small qty of rooms left)....sorry. I have contacted the local Comfort Inn as well, slightly higher in price. There are also others in the area, but I have only blocked the 9 rooms at the Hampton thus far.
Toys for Tots run (2nd annual)
12 noon Oct 29th Canal St Bridge access (closest to Hot Boat Island)
I have contacted the local national guard, confirmed, Army National Guard will be there at noon. Bring one or more toys for the kids, especially during these times in the south when so many have lost so much.
Local newspaper has been contacted and they have confirmed they will be there.
I plan on arriving Friday the 28th around noon.....hope to meet some of you at 'Hot Boat Island' to finish out the day on the water.
So lets get this party started, make it better than last year.
Need to get a roll call started, food listing, arrival/departure time listing, etc..
NC, SC, VA, WV, MD, PA, OH, TN, GA (and any others I havent listed)......come on everyone, lets finish out the year with a bang !!! We had 40 some boats last year, lets blow that number out......

Here it is. Linville Access Area is the ramp to use. Recognize the area now? This is the first lake in the Catawba River chain that includes Lake Norman and Lake Wylie.

Dave, can you pinpoint the other ramp that is closet to the Island for the guys that are fuel challenged.

There Are 2 Off Of Power House Road. Mimossa(sp) Which Has Fuel And A Store, 10.00 Per Day To Park In A Watched Parking Lot. The Other Is Right Before The Spill Way But For The Life Of Me I Cant Think Of The Name Of It. Maybe Some Can Post The Name. Huffer,jr Jetter, Markist. These Ramps Are Easily Accessable From Interstate 40 Or Hwy 226.

Canal Street access/bridge is on the second map where hwy 126 crosses over the lake....short ride to the island from there.

THE BRIDGE IS THE ONLY REASON I CAN REMEMBER!

If you want to camp in a 'civilized' area...here's some more info:
Lake James State Park fees
Campsites: $15 per day, per site; $10 a day for senior citizens 62 years of age or older. Firepit, picnic table and tent space at each site. Drinking water, restrooms and shower facilities nearby.
Firewood: $2 per bundle.
Picnic shelter reservations: $85 per day. Twelve-table shelter; drinking water and restrooms nearby. Use of the shelter is free of charge unless reservations are requested.
Mountain Harbour Marina has a website: click here (http://www.mountainharbourmarina.com/index.html)

more information...hope this helps out. If you have any information to add to the map, let me know and I'll update it and repost asap.
Benfield's is only about 4.5 miles from I-40 exit 94. Anybody got any feedback on using it? I've only driven by it.

Change update for the Toys for Tots drop point.
Army National Guard will be picking up the Toys at the Canal St Bridge access ramps. This is best for them, as well as closest to Hot Boat Island. I will also contact the local newspaper contact to inform them of the change, which will actually be closer for them as well drive wise.
Thanks all, look forward to seeing all my old friends, as well as meeting many new ones !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just called the Hampton Inn to give them my HHonors number, and they did not have my reservation on file!!!
They were apologetic, and were able to get us a room, but I wanted to make sure everyone had a room when they got there :220v:
See ya'll on Friday!

If you want to stay, but the Hampton's full- the Holiday Inn is about a half mile south of the Hampton on the south side of I-40. Appears to have been remodeled in the recent past. See my map above for more info.
Also, there is a large flat open grass field between the Hampton Inn and the McDonalds that's for sale. Point is, maybe if it's not wet or soggy, some parking could be done there for rigs/boats/trailers. First ones there ought to ask about it. Hmmm.

That's where they asked everybody to park last year at the Hampton. (in the grassy area)
