View Full Version : Air Pocket Venting?

I know some of the guys have their bowls tapped and that little thingy put in there that lets the air out, then it closes off when water reaches it. Would something like that work at that rear of the heads coming out of the intake, like here?

To keep steam pockets from developing at the rear of the heads up into the intake. There is a braided hose that loops between the 2 ports, but I'm not sure if this actually works, also, I wanted to be able to use this port to add a water temp sender.

if ur refering to a hose that went from 1 side of the manif to the other side I-----I hook it bk up & run ur water temp sender/gage off the front of the mainf

My performer rpm air gap 2.0 manifold has just the setup you are thinking of, as well as ports in the top corners of the front passage to the t-stat housing. The instructions are to run a line up each side of the manifold from the back to the front to improve water flow from the top rear head area. I did it, dunno if it had any effect at all, but since the feature was here, I might as well use it.

I vented mine out the back of the boat. Two 1/4" Nylon tubing lines run out through the transom. Used a regular bulkhead fitting (like for a bilge pump discharge) with a wood dowel plug drilled to provide two 1/4" holes for the tubing. Works great.

Thats pretty much the idea I was trying to come up with. Unfortunately, the blower manifold doesn't have the 2 ports up front, its a single dump that is vertical, and the ones in the back I'd like to vent, and also be able to put a temp sender in there, without looking goofy as hell.

Have you checked the water temp in the rear of the engine VS the front?You could make a long run and shoot the engine with a infrared temp gun.I always run the water temp sender in the front and never tried it at the back of the engine.As cold as a jet boat runs I dont think you would have a problem.Just adding a jumper hose seems pretty ineffective.
The way Old Guy has his setup dumping over board out the back of the intake seems like it would be very effective as you are circulating water through the engine.
Why not run your header water lines out the back of the intake?That seems like it would give alot of water flow that went completely thru the engine eliminating any chance for hot spots.
